How do you dispose of your syringes and injectable materials?

I have quite a collection, and I'm ready to get rid of them.

The website for the county I live in says:

In King County, sharps, including syringes clipped with a needle, can be disposed of in the garbage if the sharps are placed in a puncture resistant container such as a 2 liter PET pop bottle, with a tight fitting or taped lid and labeled "SHARPS, DO NOT RECYCLE."

Seems a little lax, doesn't it?  Maybe not?  I'm not real comfortable just throwing them in the community dumpster, even after placing them in a puncture resistant container and marking it.

Just curious how the rest of you dispose of yours...

I give mine to someone that takes them somewhere that they're used by heroin addicts, for clean needles.  He's kind of maxed out on them though, or was a couple of months ago so I'm slowly building up a supply in my apartment.  I'm going to try and dump them at my HIV clinic when I go in a month.  They'll at least have a better ability to dispose of them than I do.

Well, I'm an Insulin-dependent diabetic besides having HIV and what I do with mine is to put them in like an old coffee can or something and throw them in the garbage.  I mark the can, so hopefully no one fiddles around with it.  If I don't have that can, I just throw them in the garbage with the rest of the trash.  If someone wants to go through the garbage to find them, that's their problem.

When I was injecting Fuzeon, I took the containers of used syringes to my doctor's office, who put them in his bio-hazard waste disposal.

btw, just so nobody thinks I'm doling out used syringes mine are NOT used... still sealed as I use a needless injector contraption.

I put mine in a sharps container and deposed of it in the trash.

When I was on interferon, I was given a small sharps container by the clinic and I'd take it in for a trade-in on a new model when the old one was filled.

I also have a small sharps container that my ID Dr provides....when full, I exchange for an empty one

I should have made myself more clear. Mine was not used for injecting into myself. They were used to draw medicines from vials and inject into IV solutions.

I will have to ask my ID doc for one of those things since I will soon be injecting insulin but it is with a pin. When I test my sugar I usually put it in a can but never thought of a 2 liter bottle..duh...

Just bring em by. I have sharps containers to give out and I dispose of used syringes, albeit usually from people injecting methamphetamine.

We also have two drop boxes operated by the Department of Health locally where diabetics and others using injectable drugs can safely dispose of their used syringes.
