Another attack on our Amish community
« on: December 20, 2011, 06:27:08 am »
http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2011/12/20/amish-girl-15-dies-after-being-shot-in-buggy.html

We've recently seen a drastic increase in the number of attacks on our Amish community.  Absolutely tragic and a needless crime.

Not that it's really relevant, but this occured in east central Ohio and not anywhere near Cleveland.

That's such a horrible story. It never ceases to amaze me how hateful people are.

It was not intentional, it was a freak accident. There will be no one charged in this incident.

If there's any relief at all, it's that it was an accident.  We've had a rash of attacks and the entire community was fearful the violence was escalating.  The Amish community is very forgiving and have already expressed those sentiments to the guy responsible.

I graduated from college in that area and really developed a respect for their simpleness of life.  Except when I was on a 2 lane highway behind them, running late for class.

Wolfter and bosco, explain what I am missing here.  Sounds like an accident as Rapid says. Not hateful and not a crime.

It is a crime, just not a hate crime.  There have been a rash of personal attacks on the Amish in this community.  So when this young girl was found with a bullet in her head, the community was fearful that the attacks were becoming escalated.

A guy was illegally discharging his firearm and the unfortunate result was someone being killed.  But it's totally understandable why every one was initially fearful.

He didn't illegally discharge a firearm. It didn't happen in town it happened in the country and from where he shot and she was hit was a mile and a half away.
