Viatical Companies
« on: November 08, 2008, 12:11:40 am »
Hey guys. I could really use some help here. I have just "retired" from my job as a a high school teacher and am converting a life insurance policy of $45,000 group to an individual. I was using a company called Life Partners in Texas to do a Viatical settlement on it and midway thru, the woman handleing it called and said do to the economy alot of the case files in the company had to be cancelled cause the investors were not funding. I was given the name of Viasource funding, but I could really use some help here. Does anyone have any company names that are doing viatial settlements currently ?????

My opinion is that you should not do a viatical settlement on your insurance policy unless you are desperate for funds. (Like you cannot afford to live without it.)
You have been informed that due to the economy this type of buyout is not being funded. I would take that as a sign you should wait, or seek other avenues.  My concern is that you would only get pennies on the dollar at this time.
As I remember it, back in the early 90's, viatical buyouts were done when someone was given 6 months to 2 years to live. If you dont fit that catagory, it hardly seems logical to persue a viatical buyout.

That is why I am seeking out other companies (if people out there... hint...hint...) have any information so I can see what my options are. You see, this life insurance policy is not all its cracked up to be and has so many restrictions on it after conversion from group, I would rather sell it. I am willing to wait until better economic times, but surely someone has some contact names ????

Most viatical settlements are done through brokers who can shop around to get you the most favorable terms. Do a Google search on "viatical settlement brokers" and you'll get lots of names.

Here's a website with good general information about viatical settlements:
