Music to soothe the soul
« on: September 01, 2006, 10:24:59 pm »
Now listening to Des'ree, I Ain't Movin'. (Indulge me Newt), track 1 "You Gotta Be"

Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what your future holds
Try to keep your head up to the sky
Lovers they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
Stand up and be counted, don't be ashamed to cry
You gotta be

You gotta be bad
You gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard
You gotta be tough
You gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Herald what your mother said
Read the books your father read
Try to solve the puzzles in your own sweet time
Some may have more cash than you
Others take a different view
My oh my, hey hey hey

You gotta be bad
You gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard
You gotta be tough
You gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Time asks no questions, it goes on without you
Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace
The world keeps on spinning, can't stop if you tried to
The best part is danger staring you in the face

Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try to keep your head up to the sky
Lovers they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
My oh my, hey hey hey

You gotta be bad
You gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard
You gotta be tough
You gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

You gotta be bad
You gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard
You gotta be tough
You gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Gotta be bold
Gotta be bad
Gotta be wise
Don't ever be sad
Got to be hard
Not too, too hard
All I know is love will save the day

You gotta be bad
You gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser
You gotta be hard
You gotta be tough
You gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm, you gotta stay together

Hey Steve,

Reads like a good song. I like the lyrics. I guess I'll have to endulge myself and see if I can find it.

Hugs,

Mark

Hi Fearless,

What an awesome song!  :)

"LISTEN as your day unfolds..."- to be aware, to be present without getting caught up in all the foldings...

Mark,
You should definitely try and track down the album, "I Ain't Movin'". You can download a free 30 second sample at http://launch.yahoo.com/track/915589.
Des'ree has the most beautiful soul voice. You Gotta Be, was a huge hit worlwide back in the mid 90's. She's from the UK with Carribean heritage. I was fortunate enough to see her perform in a smokey, 100 seat jazz bar in Sydney. A truly special night.

The CD jacket has a couple of lovely quotes from Des'ree and stuff her mother told her:

You only have one body - respect it
You have one mind - feed it
You have one life - live and enjoy it.

Each day when I rise and the light of day kisses my face 'Good morning' I know deep down inside that my heart cannot remain this peaceful because I have to face the world. I have to wear different at different times. In order to be heard - you gotta be. In order to hold on - you gotta be. In order to fight - you gotta be. In order to win - you gotta be.
I affirm and believe.

What an awesome song, indeed!  I used to listen to this song when I was younger and loved it then.  It has much more meaning to it now.  Another song that is good for encouragement (or at least I think so) is John Parr's St. Elmo's Fire (Man In Motion).  My favorite part is the chorus....

I can see a new horizon underneath the blazin' sky
I'll be where the eagle's flying higher and higher
Gonna be your man in motion, all I need is a pair of wheels
Take me where my future's lyin', St. Elmo's Fire.

It amazes me how now the smallest things mean so much to me.  Guess I thought I appreciated the small things before, but I appreciate them even more than before!  I got excited about getting a library card the other day...who would have though.  ???

I really like that idea, it works too (I think).  But i tend to listen to music in a different lang, like Japanese.  As long as it has a nice melody it's ok.  This guy i listen to has a soothing voice that comforts me, + he's good looking for me too.
And so it has been, and so it is written

Never paid much attention to that song until I actually read the lyrics. Thanks for posting that! I love this song now!

Hey Stevie,
I have always loved that song. We used to perform it in our show. It always got me jazzed for the rest of the set.
OMG!!! I just dated myself! Well shit, who cares.
Now I'm gonna be humming that song all day tomorrow. That means you gotta come back and give me a new song tomorrow. :P :)
