Title: Anyone Please
Post by: SincereOne on October 06, 2006, 11:38:01 pm
Hi, i'm greatly worried about my current status. I'll try to get to the specifics as to not lose anyone
I had unproteced vaginal sex 2 times in 1 day with a person of unknown hiv status

Couple of days later painfull urination occured all std and hiv test came back negative

Day 15 Rash on arm terribly itchy never had anything like that
Day 22 experieced swollen tonsils and groin and armpit swollen continued until day 30
Day 25 Sore throat stuffy nose
Day 26 Fever for 1 day and 2 nights nightsweat

Day 28 Tested for Antibody Oraquick Negative
Girl who i had sex with tested 30 days after her last exposure 2 weeks ago
She had many symptoms also

30 day test Negative

What are the odds we both tested negative after one month but both are seroconverting?

Just want to add i'm uncircumized and she had anal sex as her last exposure but not too sure..

Basically should i go nutz or should i calm down alittle i'm not sure i'm scared.

Sincere One

Hay, don't go nuts just yet. In fact there could be that you are not infected, but it would be smart to go and get tested again in maybe two months from now. In the mean time: Mind over Matter

Symptoms or lack of symptoms are no indication of HIV transmission. ARS symptoms if they happen at all come on all at once and last for a week or two only and then they're gone. You did have a risk by having unprotected sex and you should probably be tested 13 weeks past your last unprotected sex. Understand it is harder for a woman to transmit HIV to a man, than a man to a woman. So retest in the appropriate time period to get a conformation.

Sincere,

Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to hiv infection. Only the appropriate test at the appropriate time will reliably inform you of your hiv status.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. Your twenty eight day negative is good, but it is by no means conclusive. Regarding the woman's test, you can't know your own status going by someone else's test results.

You need to test again at three months past this incident to be sure of your hiv status.

Regarding other STIs, if you tested only a few days after this incident, you might have tested too soon. STI testing for things like gonorrhea and chlamydia needs to take place 10-14 days after for an accurate assessment. These infections can be present with no or little symptoms.

You are playing roulette with your life and health by going bare. You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms and avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple.
