Gallbladder & HIV?
« on: November 24, 2017, 07:51:41 pm »
Hi all,

I am having issues with my gallbladder as of the last 5 months or so and am going to see a surgeon about possibly getting it removed. I know we have to be careful with medicine and alcohol and other things that effect the liver, and I am slightly concerned about my gallbladder being removed and how this might effect my liver since I am on a regimen and will be for the rest of my life.

Firstly, YES, I am going to speak with my surgeon and ID doctor about this (so no need to tell me to go do that), but my appointments with them are almost a month out, and I honestly wanted to hear any personal experiences people might have from those of you who are + and have had yours removed.

Those of you who have had your gallbladder removed and are +, have you noticed any negative effects? Have there been any concerns longterm or other symptoms from not having your gallbladder and consistently taking your medication? Any other info you'd have to share?

Thank you!!

Definitely interested in hearing the responses to this since I had my gallbladder out prior to diagnosis. So now just relying on my liver. I dont drink consistently but when i do i can do a whole bottle of wine myself. Soooo, hmmmm....wondering if that is something i need to curtail? Missed 2 pills in 2.5 years so that is good but what about the toll from the medication.....i never forget to take my meds....i got like 3 reminders on my phone.

Ill not wake up an old thread but here is one you can read back at least.

My thoughts reading your posts is more general not on the gallbladder itself. You have just started treatment and in 2017 the medication you are on is really mild, and the updated version as well. Its also a far lower dose that its predecessor*

With HIV treatment and care comes monitoring, so try to worry less about "what if's" in life and keep in mind that you are constantly being monitored so if any problems were to arise you can switch or mitigate them early as needed with your doctor. Its not like worrying about it will change it or the need to take the medication.

Look sorry to hear you have to have your gallbladder removed, hope you feel better soon.

I had mine removed in May. Had a ton of problems after. I am now starting to feel good. But still suffer from serious bloating after every meal. Have to take digestive enzymes with every meal. If your gall bladder is not diseased I would not have it removed.
