I was in hospital for a few days :(
« on: December 17, 2009, 12:21:50 am »
I started having fevers of 103 Dec 6th, and I thought I just got the flu. So i took some tylenol and rest and fluids well a week went by, and dec 13th rolls by and my fevers are 106. so i went to ER and they admited me. I sat in the hospital till Dec 16th,  and they ran xrays, cat scans, tons of blood work, blood cultures, and everthing came back negative and clear in blood and xrays and cat scans, they dont know what causes the fevers.

they did do a cd4 count on me in the hospital and my hiv doctor's partner came in and gave me the result. my 600 score in ocotber is now 400 now :( it dropped 200 cells.

screamer,

sorry to hear about your unwanted 'vacation'... hope you're doing better now.

in the absence of anything definitive, i guess the docs are classifying it as fever of unknown origin (fuo). that can happen in retroviral disease sometimes and frequently involves an acute inflammatory event. as you know, hiv causes chronic inflammation. hopefully your immune system settles down & your cd4's bounce back up. hang in there & take care of yourself.

Screamer,

I'm sorry to hear that you were in the hospital but the good thing is they ruled out anything serious based on all the tests.

Don't worry too much about the CD4 count fluctuating by 200 points. The more important number is your CD4 percentage. CD4 counts themselves, can change drastically even based on something as simple as the time of the day you get your labs drawn.

There are loads of weird viral things that cause high temperatures. As long as the fever is abated you are all set to enjoy the holidays with those you care about. Best of luck and Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Find a guy who calls you handsome instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat or will stay awake just to watch you sleep. Wait for the guy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you're in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends and is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky he is to have you. He's the guy who turns to his friends and says, 'That's The One!'
