Living With HIV / Re: My journal here
« Last post by Kirat on Yesterday at 10:19:40 pm »
As of March 26th, 2024, my condition remains unchanged. I continue to experience extreme fatigue, difficulty breathing, nasal inflammation, and throat inflammation, characterized by what is now diagnosed as cobblestone throat. My gastrointestinal issues persist, causing significant discomfort and disruption to my daily life. Despite my efforts with probiotics, I have yet to find significant relief. Additionally, my lack of energy prevents me from engaging in physical activity or weightlifting, further impacting my ability to focus on my studies for college. I also experience occasional headaches, and my concentration continues to be impaired. This prolonged state of ill health has taken its toll on me, and I eagerly await my upcoming medical consultation with another doctor in the hope of finding solutions. The constant struggle with these symptoms has become overwhelming, and after over a year of enduring them, I am eager for a change.

Pre-HAART Long-Term Survivors / memory from 1995
« Last post by em on Yesterday at 09:17:11 pm »

I may have posted this a while back but it was in my head and thought it worth rewriting and sharing .

Mid nineties , I was invited to HIV positive group meeting In a hospital by my HIV Doc.

there was a room with about ten or so people in it plus two young medical professionals

the meeting started with people just staring off in the distance . the two medical hosts of the meeting put there hands under there legs and I guess for some reason sat on their hands .

I could  tell by looking around most of my fellow HIV ers were knocking on heavens door and very far along on the road of AIDS . two of the guys were in wheel chairs . One of the guys in the wheel chair looked to me to have a dark shadow around him and was looking down with a look of hopeless ness that everyone seemed to be sharing . Someone asked that we introduce our selves . He asked me to start.  I at that time did not recognize him. He was very skinny and gaunt with round lumpy growths on his face . I looked at our two hosts and then looked around the room and said , sorry it was almost thirty years ago I am having trouble recalling the exact wording .  It seem to me  like the HIV health care system are sitting on there hands and twiddling there thumbs , what we need is someone to do something about  getting an HIV AIDS cure . it was something like that but it was off the cuff and very hopeful tone that something would be done to help us only  if .  I can not recall exactly what I said . but I looked around the room and guy in the wheel chair that had been looking down threw  his head  back and cheered and then laughed. they all laughed and smiled . the guy that started by asking me to introduce myself said leave it to you then said my name . to cheer us up .    At that point I recognized his voice he was a freind of mine form a HIV support group I had been to a couple years earlier  that at the last few meetings I was the only one to show up . It would not surprise me that I am the only one at that meeting that did not die that year . that suport group I beleive none of them made it either. I shorlty there after got very sick and well do not not want to go into detail  but death was calling   and seemd inevitable

after this meeting my HIV Doc would listen to me and twiddle his thumbs and look at me disaprovingly. I should have said to him that I was just trying to cheer up that group that looked hopeless .    Anyway a doc from  the same hospital told me a couple years ago that my HIV Doc from back then had passed away . time marches on so much can happen in just shy of about thirty years or so.

thank you for letting me share this memory  sorry to go on so much

It's great to be living in a time where we have so many choices. I would have hated to be positive in the early days. Take these 20+ pills a day, suffer the side effects or die. No options there.

I had a similar discussion with my Dr that you plan to have on my last visit. She started it by wanting to drop ABC due to possible cardiovascular issues occurring. Wanted me to switch to Dovoto, I wasn't happy with just two drugs. Opted for Kocitaf, no good for you as it contains TAF. One relatively small pill.

I wasn't keen on RPV containing regimes due to the food requirements. I travel and work over seas and like a regular time I can stick to. Didn't want to possibly miss a dose because I was not in a position to eat and then forget I hadn't taken the pill. Although I did manage over five years on Compilers with out issue.

I am sure you will find the ideal solution.

Do I Have HIV? / Re: Any risk?
« Last post by leatherman on Yesterday at 08:29:16 pm »
There was no risk for HIV in your situation. HIV is transmitted by unprotected anal/vaginal sex or by sharing injection needles. Since HIV's ability to infect is destroyed by the changes in air and temperature outside of someone's body, cuts, scratches, or sores along with blood or other bodily fluids don't matter.

Have a great day,
Michael

Reducing Your HIV risks:
With no exceptions, use condoms correctly and consistently for anal or vaginal intercourse
Talk to a healthcare provider about PrEP as another layer of protection

Get tested yearly for HIV and other STIs.
If you don’t use condoms and/or PrEP, test more frequently

Some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other more easily acquired STIs. It is possible to show no signs or symptoms from an STI so testing is the only way to know.

Get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

What’s the ONLY way to know if you’ve been infected by HIV or an STI?
Get tested.

lol. One night stands, my HIV status has never been an issue and I'm straight. It depends on how you share and your confidence. If I belive the LGBTQ+ member's stories it seems they have a more challenging time.

That good to hear, I intend to be super discreet about my condition, so its a risk they tell a friend etc who knows a friend of a friend etc, but will deal with that if it when it comes up.

So bribing the clinic staff will not help you, it is the NHS. The injections are not something for me, but you can look into this after a while. You would first need a suppressed viral load, without any resistance profile to the drugs. https://www.uhsussex.nhs.uk/resources/long-acting-injectable-hiv-treatment/

haha interesting way of putting it.

I dont want to bribe anyone (never say never) but would like the best treatment that suits my fast paced needs.

Although the NHS has been nothing short of fantastic for me in the short time I have had to deal with them, if there was a private but paid version for dealing with HIV medication and recovery I would take it - if you have any recommendations or comments on this, please let me know. (ship abroad medication etc, which I doubt NHS do)

Thanks again for all your support

Do I Have HIV? / Any risk?

Hi and thank you so much for this excellent forum.

I had a massage at a massage parlor, and at the end of the massage, the masseuse masturbated me with oil. I noticed that I have some cuts on my penis (they look dry, like scratches with blood inside (like after you robbing something super hard) but without anything open and bleeding). It is possible that I contracted HIV from her if she had injuries/sperm (Not mine) on her hands ?

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Unfortunately it is the ultimate cock block for one night stands imo  (even more as I sleep with woman and they would be ones I would just meet in bars etc).

As for dating, I've had one or two polite "no thank you" but that's about it, after nearly 25 years of living with HIV that's not too bad.

Yeah I dont think I could have sex without disclosing, with UD, regardless of jurisdiction and laws.

I always share my HIV status, although, I still check before travelling.

Around Europe easy, no issues at all imo, around Middle East, I hear GP can do a generic letter but the meds would give it away (if ever stopped). Probably get away with it with only 14 etc but this isnt something should discuss online :)

EU and US are easy, the Middle East is only a problem when going to a nation that you should be going to in the first place. https://www.hivtravel.org/ The same can be said for travelling to any country you shouldn't be and that's a short list.

Custom officers don't care about your HIV status or generally about the pills. When you start doing shady stuff like putting them in bottles that don't match the meds or hiding them, that's when they care and ask questions.

The x2 a month injections ART treatement I have been reading about sound ideal, can make this easier?

Do you have any experience with injections for ART? I hear on NHS this is limited but would be willing to pay, for events like this - doubt they offer this treatment so early on

Thanks again Jim for your response.

The only other travel advice is to pack your meds in hand luggage in the original packaging and bring a cover note from the GP that it's for your personal use to treat a medical condition.

Check the local transmission/disclosure laws before doing anything like sex. Some places have hash laws if you don't disclose and backwards transmission/exposure criminalization.
