Title: 1 week positive
Post by: BKNYLivin on September 25, 2006, 07:37:31 pm
Hi All,
I found this board thru one of the other boards and I'm glad I did. I have been here reading for the last 2 or 3 hours and it has been very helpful/educational.
I tested positive 1 week ago, so this is all new to me(on a personal level). However, I decided the day I got my results thhat I was going to live and fight, so here I am - yes I've had a couple of bad days, but try not to let them get to me. Right now, I'm focusing on recovering from pneumonia and I'm getting stronger everyday. I'll be getting my 1st lab results in 2 days, so I'll have a better idea what's going on in my body, but whatever the case, I fight on even though I'm not looking forward to going on meds or OIs.
So, if there's anyone out there who has just been diagnosed, remember it's not the death sentence it used to be and with a good support system, meds(if needed) and a healthy lifestyle, we probably have decades to live. I know it's not easy and all sorts of thoughts go through your mind - who will want me now, will I be single for the rest of my life, will I make it to next year, who should I tell etc etc  I've only told one friend - my ex, who has been great, but this is the beginning of the rest of my life and I don't intend to curl up and die. I have  so much to do and I'm looking forward to going back to the gym this week.
I will be 37 next week and don't plan on going anywhere anytime soon!!!
It gets better each day and starting a journal has also helped me a lot.  I hope everyone here is doing ok(considering) and learning to stay strong as I am(still waiting for the tears though, I'm sure they'll come sometime soon). Great to have forums like these.
Much Love

You have such an upbeat attitude! From what I hear, that is the key to living well!

Hello Bkny,

It is unfortunate that you have tested positive. However, it is a good thing that you DO now know so that you can get a handle on your health. A positive attitude is an excellent attribute to have. Please DO listen to your Doctor and follow his/her advice for your treatment.

Aside from that, I wish to extend to you a warm WELCOME to the forums. Here you will find communication, understanding, support, some cries, some laughter, and many of your questions relating to HIV/AIDS answered.

There is a lot of information for you here at your disposal. Please DO take the time to read through our "lessons" section which is located on the top left hand corner of your page. We have a great group of people that will listen and answer. Feel free to come and vent from time-to-time on any questions or topics you may have.

Again Welcome, and make the BEST of each Day!

Welcome, BK. Glad you found your way to this site.

You've got a great attitude. It takes a while to adjust to living with HIV. You've made a very good start.

One of the most important things for staying well is to have a doctor with whom you can form a good working partnership to keep you healthy. That includes being able to ask questions and to make decisions together.

Anytime you have a question or anything you want to discuss you can come here.

Again, welcome!

Cheers,

Thanks guys, it's really nice that we are all out here supporting each other. I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow and will get the results of my 1st labs, so I'll probably have a few questions.

If I may suggest, get into the habit of keeping a pad and pen handy with you in general. That way when a thought or question occurs to you, you can jot it down rather depending on your memory when get into see your doc.

Have a good visit and keep us posted.

Cheers,

Hi BKNY,

Reading about your upbeat attitude gives me the inspiration to not let this get me down!  Whenever I go for my runs, I keep reminding myself that I have to beat this by going the distance and I complete my run!

I happy for you that you have a friend who is supportive. That's fantastic! I have not told anyone yet and I do hope I will be as fortunate as you if and when I do tell.

Your thoughts and feelings are exactly what I have too. There are times when I tend to backslide but I tell myself I still have so much more to live for!  But for now the concern is to take care of ourselves first.

I hope your lab results turn out to be of good news. I will be going for mine soon....

Keep up your upbeat attitude and maybe we can share our stories along the way.

Cheers and take care!

Hi BKNY,

I like your vibes, you have a very positive attitude and that's wonderful. Being diagnosed HIV + is not an easy thing to deal with but one day at a time makes it better. You mention that you have a support and that's good.

As Andy said, any questions that comes to your head jot them down and when you go to your doctor ask questions, be active in your medical care and always remember that you come first.

One Day A A Time my friend we are all in this together.
