Hi i had sex with a sex worker on 14th sept (night ) and had a condom breakage but this happened before i came so i changed the condom before finishing . But this got me the next day and i d been living in fear since then so i went to my doctor and finally got Hiv rna for pcr and p -24  antingen after 14 days i.e 28th sept (morning ) tests and both tested negative . Recently i ve been having head aches hair fall and pain on the left of my neck somewhere near my neck . I ve got this fear back and my question is wether the tests i got are conclusive and if not can i get an Elisa after 8 weeks or 2 months (16th nov) and would that be conclusive .
THANK-YOU

tense_guy, Please do not post questions that you have about your own concerns in another person's thread. This is called thread hijacking and we do not encourage this practice

Tense,

I removed the posts you put in other people's threads. I binned one and used the other to create your own thread, which is the ONLY thread you may post in from now on.

I've yet to see the insertive partner end up hiv positive following a condom break and I do not expect you to be the first. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and it is more difficult to transmit from a woman (the receptive partner) to a man (the insertive partner).

While I do not expect your negative results to change, you need to test at three months for a conclusive negative result.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. A six week negative is highly unlikely to change, but must be confirmed at the three month point.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence. A correctly used condom rarely breaks, so make sure you read the information I've provided.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

PCR tests are not approved as standalone tests and will not give you a conclusive negative test result any earlier than any other HIV test. 3 months post exposure is when you can obtain your conclusive negative test result.

It is highly unlikely that your previous negative result is going to be other than another negative at 3 months. Which Ann has already carefully explained to you.

Stop making a lot of drama about what is actually a very low level risk incident which you are going to come out of ok. Really.

Tense,

You can test again now if you want, but you still must confirm a negative result at the three month point.

With negative PCR and p24 antigen tests at two weeks, you can expect another negative result. You'd be wasting money, time and resources testing now instead of waiting for the conclusive three month test.

As you've been told, you were never likely to end up hiv positive following a condom break as the insertive partner. However, other STIs are another matter entirely and you should make sure you get a FULL panel of STI tests, not just hiv.
