Lymph Nodes in the groin ?
« on: August 13, 2007, 08:42:20 pm »
Hi.    I was told that I have significantly enlarged lymph nodes in my groin today, while having some follow-up on blood clots that were found last week in my leg.    The sizes seemed pretty small to me, but I was wondering if anyone else has had this ... and what size is significant.   I'd thought it was perhaps just due to the HIV infection, but I'm not getting that sense from the Doc's.   I'm still waiting on the final results and recommended next steps.

I apologize if this may have been covered before :)

Bob,

Glands swell for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes it's a generalised HIV thingy and other times it's because of a another infection.

Did your doctor give you any advice about said nodes?

Hi there,

I have some that are slightly swollen right now in the groin, also have some enlarged under the armpit.

BUT,... I have had a pretty bad cold these past few days ( Maybe it's the flu, because it feels like all the symptoms of the flu !! :-\

Anyway, I have my normal blood work appointment Wednesday, so naturally, I am going to ask the doctor about the swollen nodes. ( and what ever else has been going on with me lately)

Also throughout these past 46 months of antiretroviral therapy, my nodes have enlarged at different times, both in the groin and the armpits.

Mine swell when my allergies get bad or when I have a cold or the flu.

Thanks Mark, Ray, and MtD.   It turns out that the Docs want a full body scan of the lymph system after finding that the enlarged nodes are not localized (also in the neck, at least).   Probably just a precaution - they say that they're probably benign but due to their size they want to do all the testing they can.   I'm "treatment naive" in terms of ARV's, so I'm hoping it's the HIV.    If that's it, they said it suggests it's probably time to start them .....

Hey Bob,

I seem to remember having swollen lymph nodes prior to starting meds. If memory serves, they would come and go, but were pretty common.

But mine were never oversized so I guess they didn't cause a concern.

How are your numbers doing?

Let us know what the docs find out.

HUGS,

Mark
