Help! HIV+ or AIDS last stage?
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:34:13 am »
Hello!
I have read your site and forum, but I have not found any answer to what I am experiencing for an year. That's why I decided to write to you, hoping I will get an answer.
I am experiencing many symptomps of hiv+ or aids for almost an year now. My dilemma is that i took several tests at 3, 6 and 8 month from the exposure. At 3 and 6 month I have took ELISA tests and at 8 month an ECLIA test. They all came back negative, but my symptomps or illnesses are present, such as: rash on my skin, swollen legs and palms, red and ichy palms and soles, swollen nodes under armpits and groin, two episodes of nose bleed and a permanent buzz in my ears, skin got darker also, fatigue, white tongue, redness in genital area, hair loss. I have visited some doctors to see if all that are hiv related but they told me that if the tests are negative, they dont know what to say. I also looked on internet sites and all my symptomps leads to hiv infection, but I do not understand why tests are negative. I have in my mind two opinions: or 8 month isnt enough time for window period for showing antibodies or I am in the last stage of aids and tests dont show antibodies, thats why my tests are negative.
Please help me with an answer, I dont know what to do anymore.
Thank you so much for understanding!

Laura,

You do not have hiv.

The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days. If you were hiv positive, your three month test would have been positive.

You need to work with your doctor to find out what is causing your symptoms. Whatever that may be, it is NOT hiv. You do NOT have hiv.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

I'll say it again, YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV. Work with your doctor to find out what is really going on and quit chasing an illness you do not have.

Dear Ann,
First of all I want to thank you so much for your answer.
The reason that I was writing to you, it was that all doctors that I visited in my country said that I should take tests till 1 year after an exposure to see if I am positive or not, because there were cases when people seroconverted later (e.g. because they had cancer also, took meds, etc). And also I studied on internet and see that in some cases you have to wait up to 1 year for a definitive answer. I also saw that in late stage of aids, tests may be negative, even if you were positive for a long time. Because of my bad physical condition and symptomps that all are hiv related, I assumed that I have this disease. In my country there are not so many and good doctors for hiv.
Thank you again for your answer!

Laura,

The RARE people who test negative in late stage hiv are so ill they are in a hospital bed and unable to surf the internet. I assume that does not apply to you. If you had late stage hiv, you wouldn't be complaining of itchy palms, you'd more likely be in hospital with a serious illness, fighting for your life.

The only people who might take a little longer than three months to seroconvert and test positive are those who are on chemotherapy for cancer, anti-rejection drugs following organ transplant, or people who have been injecting street drugs, every day, for YEARS. Even people who fit one of those three categories will normally test positive by three months.  I assume none of these three categories apply to you either.

It does not matter what country you are in - the tests are the same and as I said earlier, the vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six WEEKS. Not months, WEEKS.

You do not have hiv. If you cannot accept that fact, perhaps it is time for counselling. Keep working with your doctor to find out what, if anything, is wrong with you. One thing is certain, YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV.

What makes you think you could be hiv positive? Unless you've been having unprotected intercourse or sharing injecting equipment with someone who is hiv positive, you're worrying for no good reason. But regardless of whether or not you've had a risk, YOU DO NOT HAVE HIV!!!

I will contact a doctor to see what I have. Maybe its another ilness that has same symptomps as hiv and thats why tests are negative. I spend most of my time in bed, because I am very weak and I feel very sick. I experienced night sweats too and I had also sore throat in the beginning of april 2010. Since then, my nights sweats and shortness of breath are present, no more sore throat, but all symptomps that I mentioned in the first place did not dissaperd. Anyway, I don not have ever took drugs, but it was possible to had a sex exposure and a surgical intervention as well...thats why I thought of hiv.
I will not insist anymore, I now that on this forum you dont discuss about symptoms, but only about risks and results of tests.
Thank you so much again and have a nice day!
All best,
Laura
