Having to need an hour nap everyday at 3pm is not manageable for me. Seriously. Doc thinks I'm mad cuz NOT ONE of his patients EVER in the history of him being a doc ever got tired from Viramune. I'd feel good for a few days then be lethargic for 2 days. Then feel amazing for 4 days then feel lethargic for 3 days. So eff that. I'd like some energy to actually look for a job. I'm not happy about failing half my classes this semester either from being in bed the first few months....but what can you do? I'm sure things will start falling into place for me soon.
I know i have been indecisive lately and the overwhelming self-doubt recently is not helping but I have a good feeling about this new combo.
I need to go on a cruise this year...seriously. A Poz one! sep 06-may 08 is seriously going down in history as the worst time ever for me.
But I'm not gonna be a big ol debbie downer about everything this month cuz summer is beginning! Thank god I'm still graduatting in the fall despite my bad grades. woot.
Timala hasn't turned yellow yet. I bet I'll beat him to it. :D
edit: love how I misspelled "graduating". awesome.

Thanks! I would ask the doc about the viramune. Most people I know tolerate it well with no side effects. My body hated it and I got every side effects in the book. Most went away in a few months. The somnolence decided to hang out FOREVER.

Day 2.
No side effects. Nothing.
I swear the Doc gave me a sugar pill.

Great to hear you are doing so well on the new combo!! Dennis
-
Timala did turn a little yellow. Not much - just a little. Not enough to really complain about. Otherwise, it has been great.
-
Some guy in my support group kept insisting he was yellow, but I swear I couldn't pick up on it sitting 5 feet away.

Timala and Mike are now tired from this combo. Thanks HAART for making me tired AGAIN.

Mike -- glad it's working out so far. I'm a huge fan of Reyataz + Norvir, to the point of thinking it's the best first-line choice for patients. But I'm biased, since I'm on it, and never slept soundly on Sustiva. I also take Viramune now, and it also treats me well, like a placebo -- sorry that one didn't work out for you.
-
I've actually not been on Reyataz (odd considering I've been on most everything else) but I'd agree. Seems to me a little brief yellowing as a side effect is MUCH more desirable than the potential side effects of Sustiva-based regimens or Kaletra.

Ditto. I wish I could have continued with it. bit my stomach won out.
HUGS,

Started the Truvada-Reyataz-Norvir combo almost three weeks ago (its my first) and its been great. No side effects to speak of at all--just a hint of yellowing in the eyes initially that has since gone away. I am curious to see the first numbers in a couple weeks. Good luck! :-)
-
why are some people taking Reyatazz + Norvir! and others are also on truvada
is there a reason for this
also, what is causing the yellowing of the eyes, as a drinker now and again are these drugs hard on the liver ?
-
Reyataz + Norvir is the protease inhibitor bit of the combo, Truvada is a nuke bit of the combo. You need two classes of drugs to make an effective mix that overcomes resistance, hence the name - combination therapy. 3 drugs from 2 classes usually. Reyataz + Truvada meets this condition (Norvir doesn't count here cos it's just being used to make the Reyataz more effective).
Most HIV drugs are hard on the liver but the odd drink ain't gonna hurt you - in the combo under discussion the most horrid for your liver is Norvir, but at the 100mg dose used with Reyataz it ain't that horrid for most people.
The yellowness comes from Reyataz which causes excess bilirubin (a pigment in bile) - it's usually not harmful, just don't look good.
