Title: help please!!!!!
Post by: irishfool on March 25, 2013, 03:08:56 pm
Please , i need someones advice
I am 47 year old. I was diagnsed with herpes 16 years ago and it was quite bad at the inital time.
But it disappeared and never reoccured until the last number of years in which it seems to reoccur very regularily. On top of this, I have noticed fungil infections on my two of my toes over the last six months , and I have have a growth on the roof of my mouth(centre palate)  four months ago and had it removed by an oral surgeon. Initally I thought it was cancer and surgeon said not. It reappeared last month and i had it removed again last friday. Again I am terrified it is cancer but surgeon doesnt think it is. I have been very foolish re my sex life and I may have had unprotected sex about 3  different times with sex workers over the last four years!
I am now thinking I have hiv and I awaiting blood tests from my doctor
I have had cold in my sinuses for last 4 weeks and cant shake but I am in good shape besides ie have not lost weight and have worrked out well in the gym over the last 4 years.
Please can you tell me have if i have progressed to aids with the details i have described or can I get treatment? I am at my wits end with worry

thanks!

yes, i was tested last friday and awaiting results!

If your last unprotected anal or vaginal sex was longer than three months before your test, then you can rely on that outcome. Please wear a condom for penetrative anal and vaginal sex in the future and you will avoid this type of concern.

I had unprotected vaginal sex, that is my exposure!
But my main concern is " are my symthoms progressed to a stage that treatment will have little impact" or can I be treated and still have some decent quality time left? the fact I previously had herpes is bothering me immensely and that it has accellerated the virus to an advanced stage.
If I am tested positive, I am nearly sure the inital contraction was less than 4 years!
Thanks

Fool,

Neither symptoms nor the lack of symptoms will ever tell you a single thing about your hiv status, ONLY testing at the appropriate time will.

You have had a risk and you did need to test, so I'm glad to hear you have.

The earliest you should test after a risk is six weeks. The vast majority of people who have actually been infected will seroconvert and test positive by six weeks, with the average time to seroconversion being only 22 days.

A six week (or more) negative must be confirmed at the three month point, but is highly unlikely to change.

If you have tested twelve weeks or more since your last incident of unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse, your (hopefully negative) result will be conclusive.

You need to count your window period from the last time you had unprotected intercourse with anyone, not just sex workers.

Hiv can affect any person you have sex with, regardless of their occupation, socio-economic status or where they live - or any other detail of their life.

None of your symptoms are hiv specific. You did the right thing in testing NOT because you have symptoms that worry you, but because you had a risk.

Good luck with the testing.

Ann

Hi Irish . You can not use whatever symptoms or lack of symptoms you may be experiencing as an indication you are HIV positive , its simply not the way to diagnose HIV . Its impossible to diagnose anything on the internet and besides that , many people with HIV have no symptoms at all . Sorry but we do not discuss symptoms because it doesn't do any good .

You are going to have wait for your test results but in the mean time try to calm down and stop stressing out over this . I'm healthy and I have been poz for 30 years and have a a wonderful life , so even if your test comes back positive you will be OK .
