Things to do in Memphis
« en: Junio 09, 2015, 09:24:16 pm »
While I'm thrilled that we have a pool at our hotel for the first time in years at AMG, has anyone thought of things they'd like to do in Memphis? For sure, I have to go to Graceland. It's a must for me.

Any other ideas? Suggestions from locals or others that have travelled there?

Only if you have artisanal Baccy -- preferably, procured mere blocks from your house.

I'm hanging at the Hooters on Peabody Place and munching on hot wings. It's around the corner from our hotel. 8)

btw, should I be worried about catching diabetes from toilet seats when visiting the South?

We have them here and they look like a lot of fun.  They rent them on the bike path I ride.  Sadly, there are some folks who just can't seem to use them and I've seen more than one of them, run away from the rider.   :o

I will NOT be participating in a segway adventure.  I will keep Betty company poolside with a fabulous cocktail.  :)

I will be booking soon.  As expected, the flights are getting cheaper every day.  Almost $100 less than when I first started checking.

Blasphemy! :P

I'm still a Rocker, through and through. Once I get my feet back under me, I'm gonna go back to my old, pre-prison hobby of turning older bikes, especially Italian and Brit twins, with the occasional American twin thrown in there, into Cafe Racers (as a career, this time). When you said "Rocker with a Lambretta", I nearly panicked because I thought it was the first time I didn't know a classic, obscure motorcycle! My heart raced as I looked it up, only to breathe a sigh of relief.

It's killing me, not being able to ride right now, after a decade forced to be without. This is also the only time in my life I have owned a functioning car but no functioning bike, though I've had it the other way 'round many times! My two current babies (96 Honda CBR900RR and 72 BSA Rocket 3) are in storage, and need to be broken down for full rebuilds after 9 years in storage, which is rougher on bikes than if they'd been ridden all that time. Ugh, making myself sad again. I need to ride!!

It's been raining today... maybe I'll go put the top down on my car and drive in the rain so at least I feel a little bit like I'm on two wheels. :(

Oh, Annie, let it never be said that a motorcycle is anything but lady-like! I adore women on two wheels, be it a Harley or a Lambretta.  However, your point about the hospital is well-taken, you definitely choose your ride in accordance with the type of road it is to be ridden upon.

Personally, I think there is nothing sexier than a woman (some of my colleagues here may disagree about gender, and that's okay) on a nice classic Cafe Racer, like this (oddly beige) '72 Ducati 750 SuperSport:

I will own one of these, one day! (The Ducati, not the Keira.) Though I prefer it in black, or the lovely silver-and-metallic-blue or -seafoam-green frame and details.

Miss Mim wants to do Graceland, too. Haven't ridden down the Mississippi since we left Louisiana. I'll have to pack some Dramamine, but should be fun. I doubt Mom could manage a Segway, although she'd argue otherwise. Maybe we could just hitch her wheelchair to the back of mine.

Any plans for the Meet and Greet? It's the one and ONLY time I can guilt Miss M into wearing a dress.

I think a good idea for a "meet and greet" will be one of the many BBQ places on Beale Street a very simple walk from our hotel.  Ideas anyone?  Remember, we will have at least one underage, but very important, member with us.

We also need a location, hopefully convenient, for our memorial service, either Saturday or Sunday.  Ideas?

Gary

I've only attended the AMG in Chicago and enjoyed the service but hopefully this year it could take place in the open air, perhaps a local park. The only downside would be the potential for bad weather. Just my thoughts.

Oops, I just noticed that the Congregational Church was mentioned in another thread.

Whatever works is fine with me.

If it wants to join us I'm fine with that, I'm sure it will fit right in, and the more the merrier I say.

I learned yesterday that there are two metaphysical shops in Memphis. I would like to visit at least one and check out their herbs and crystals. Let's support pagans and witches!

Howdie!  I can't wait to see everyone in Memphis. It would be really cool to go to museums, the guitar factory and tried the paddle boat. It's been a long time since I got to see everybody. I don't really care about going to Bass Pro Shop, but my mom has a gun and maybe she wants to go. I would like to see the zoo, too, that would be cool. I'd like to see Graceland even tho I never listened to his songs except on Lilo and Stitch it would still be cool to go see the toilet where he died. My mom just said, "good grief".

Nothings really new around here. My labs came in and are all good. So I don't have to go to Doc until later which is good and bad at the same time.

On the way to Memphis, I have to sit in the car with mum and dad for 11/ hours. At least they don't have a Grease album. My dad sings that Summer Love song - even the girl parts, really loud, and in public. It's just bad.

Of they will let me on it, I want to do the segway, too. I doubt I'm too small as long as they don't check ID. We can go all Paul Blart!  I'll wear a beret and scarf but not pink. I don't do pink unless it's fushia pink.

See you all in 2 weeks!  Have a safe trip.

Mini

Yeah!  We're renting a car so we can drive there. Maybe mum will make us pepperoni rolls to pack for lunch there. She makes them home made and they are really good!

Wonder if there is an elephant we can ride. I can't wait to see you guys!

Anybody else want to come?
