I had a non desired encounter 8 August, it was protected but I don't even know if the condom he used was expired or anything. I freaked out about HIV and tested at 21 days, 45 and 52 days at the lab - all negative. I did also a home test 2 months ago. I thought had a very strong cold last week and recovered but now a random fever, sore throat, body aches. This will sound crazy but could it be related to his? I am so sorry I am just hopeless and confused.

Sorry to hear that you were sexually assaulted and I hope you have access to any support you might need.

Regarding the condom, although it is best to avoid expired condoms , as long as they don't break during intercourse it's not an HIV issue.

You didn't aquire HIV from the concerned encounter.

Nothing to do with HIV from the concerned encounter. Contact your GP to treat whatever is making you feel unwell and I hope you feel better soon

I truly appreciate this. Yes, thankfully I have been having mental health support particularly given the fear of HIV this encounter has given me. Is it true then that if the lab test was negative at 6 weeks there was no need to reconfirm? I hear mixed comments but I did not retest at 12 weeks as some advise. I know I understand this may just be paranoia but this has been the most unfortunate event of my life.

Hiya.

A six weeks non-reactive result would rarely ever change and generally doesn't require retesting. You tested at 52 days, so 7'5 weeks. You didn't aquire HIV from the concerned encounter.

Thank you, Jim. Apologies, just one last question, I know you must receive lots of messages so sorry for being pedantic. You mentioned in your first mentioned "so long as condom didn't break". I honestly don't even know, it was the most horrific moment, I know a condom was used but I was so anxious that I couldn't think and just ran away at the end. Had I not realised, the 6 week test would still have been telling?
Thank you and apologies again.

The six-week window period I gave presumes there was an exposure to test over.

If you had experienced intercourse with an intact condom, there would be no reason to test. The only reason I am even entertaining testing is that you said it was assault, and therefore I am not probing or questioning you over the events.
