Concerned over oral sex and masturbation
« on: September 12, 2009, 06:26:31 am »
Hi-
Have been reading the old posts over and over.  Just want some reassurance and to make sure that I understand that my risk was nonexistent.

On a trip to vietnam I was approached by a prostitute, and foolishly I went with her (got some money stolen too but that is a whole another thing).  We kissed, she performed unprotected oral sex on me (somewhat vigourously and hitting the back of her mouth).  While giving me oral, she masturbated then with her hand that had fluids proceeded to rub the head of my penis and stroked me.  I fingered her deeply, she was quite wet.  I don't recollect the state of her oral health.  I did not have any type of insertive vaginal or anal sex.

3-4 days later I came down with a sore throat and an overall tiredess with a dry cough.  The illness lasted 2-3 days.  This got me really worried over the exposure.

Been monitoring my body for the past month (it has been exactly 1 month since the incident).  I have had no fever (didn't have a thermometer but just feeling with my hands my forehead was never overly hot).  But I have had much discomfort and worry over this with dry coughs, panic moments, and such.

Even though I have read the posts that state that insertive oral sex is no risk and that genital-hand-genital (even with copious amount of bodyily fluids) is no risk my mind at times is having a difficulty time with what if scenarios regarding hiv (such as her throate could have been bleeding).

I just want to make sure (want some reassurance) that my exposure was truly a no-risk experience and that I don't even need to test but if I do decide to (probably around 7 week mark) I will inevitably obtain a negative result.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

You were never at risk of contracting HIV.

Sexual risk for HIV is about unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.

Everything else is risk only in theory. Use condoms for the above and you will be well protected from HIV transmission.

Nothing you are reporting put you at risk for HIV.

Cheers.

Took the Home Access HIV-1 test at 52 days after incident (7 1/2 week) mainly to relieve the anxieties.  Received a negative result (as expected).

Do I need to concern myself with subtypes and such as the incident occurred in Vietnam?  (been visiting websites)

Thank you for you help.

Your negative result is just what I would have expected. You have no cause for further concern nor any need for further testing.

Let it go and get on with your life.

And make sure you always use condoms for intercourse. Then you will be well protected.

Cheers.
