Hi Sanitex, I might not be the best person to answer you but I think you should first have a look at some online resources now to get a basic idea on the regiment of drugs you're taking now. Go check this link out. And HAART it stands for Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy. It's the combination of drugs that attack different parts of HIV or stop the virus from entering blood cells. In many cases, people do see an increase of CD4 though in what rate it depends on each person.

There are of course also potential side effect issues. Have you discussed them with your doctor? You should also bring any other health issues like rashes to your doctor before you use any off-the-shell "scar remover".

Since you're also on other meds for your anxiety, etc, and you're probably dealing with some side-effects, couple with the fact that you've just started to take meds, you should think hard before committing yourself to any long haul travel whether the trips are necessary.

The early period of adjustment is difficult to say the least. Are you in Bangkok? If so, have you checked out the local support groups

I hope it helps, Shaun

PS - I am in Hongkong, and there a few others from Bangkok as well.. just so you know there's a small group of Asia-based pozzies here.

Pls take some time to adjust to this new and no doubt shocking situation.
Mostly the meds will have good results and your numbers will rise, though that's not an
absolute promise. Do you meditate? It can help a lot with anxiety. Wat Mahatat on Sanam Luang gives free meditation instruction. (daily). Other than that I wish you a lot of strength, it is a real life change.
(I have been poz for 10 years and have been ok, so maybe you can draw some strength and hope from that)
added : Please follow Shaun's and Philly's splendid advise and also read Lessons and Drugs very thoroughly, it's like essential first reading.

Sanitex, the meds that you are on will no doubt improve your cell function.  Your viral load will probably decrease dramatically.  It takes awhile longer for CD4 cells to increase.  But yes, things should improve.

Sanitex, though I am not a moderator here, I would suggest that you keep your concerns in one thread.

Sanitex, I began with an AIDS diagnosis 15 years ago and immediately went on meds.  I currently have no viral load and +1,000 cd4s, but it took me a long, long time to reach that and I had to make a lot of effort throughout the entire journey.

Yes, it can be done, and ALWAYS keep in mind that current treatments are wildly better for you in the year 2008 than they were for me, so hopefully you won't have as hard of a time.  Still, your numbers are very low, so you need to be more prudent with your treatment than other patients.  Don't miss doctor's appointments, and be extra careful to take all of your medications daily and on time, and I think you will fare well.

As far as traveling with your current numbers, I'd inquire about what your doctor has recommended.  I'd put in context as well.  Travel where, and doing what when you travel?  Personally I'd take it easy for a while if you can, but of course if you have a job that requires travel then that's a different story.  I did go overseas after my diagnosis, but it was to France so I didn't feel that I was in some dangerous situation where I'd not get good treatment if something went awry.  And I probably continued to do such things once per year, and of course I never worried traveling within the US.  My cd4's were not as low as yours though.  I think in hindsight and if my numbers had been what yours are I'd try, if possible, to let them at least get up past 150 but that's just me.

Anxiety issues SUCK, and I've had this issue too for the past 7 years.  Meds do help greatly for this, but please do take care and combine regular cognitive behavioral therapy with your meds so that you can hopefully learn to control the issues which give rise to your individual anxiety.

Lastly, welcome to AIDSmeds and I do hope you will make use of the board and keep us posted with your progress.

Take care,

David
