World Social Forum Begins in Nairobi
« on: January 22, 2007, 12:50:06 am »
So this week more than 50,000 people from all parts fo the world are descending Nairobi to participate in World Social Programme.Buzz words such as Anti- globalization, Democratization and empowerment will be chanted in the name of the poor, the oppresseed, the marginalized, the disabled and yes the HIV positive.
Protesters from around the world will rally around a variety of issues ranging from 'ensuring universal and sustainable access to the common goods and nature' to building a world of peace, justice , ethics and respect of diverse spiritualities.

Anyone from the forums in Nairobi?

Jambo Siongi,

I made an attempt to place this message here in Kiswahili, I fear that I have forgotten far too much to make it sensible, so english will have to do.

While I am forced to stay in the United States, my spirit will certainly be there with all of you in your struggle to be heard.  I very much appreciate you placing this announcement here, both for the education of our population in the United States and other places around the globe; but also so that we may all concentrate some positive energy towards one of the countries that is suffering a huge impact from this Pandemic.

Please be sure Siongi, that we are thinking of you and your HIV+ brothers and sisters in Nairobi, Kenya, during this very important gathering.

Asante kwa roho yako, na tu ta onana.

In Love and total Support,
Tim.
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

I was in Bombay for the last one... and it was a pretty overwhelming event, a dizzying experience. Thanks Siongi, for posting about this important gathering in these forums. Jay
Her finely-touched spirit had still its fine issues, though they were not widely visible. Her full nature, like that river of which Cyrus broke the strength, spent itself in channels which had no great name on the earth. But the effect of her being on those around her was incalculably diffusive: for the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.

Asante sana Tim na Jan kwa maoni yenu.

Just to give you  a quick update of some of the pertinent issues being raised in the forum ..there are calls for the rich nations and the G8 in particular, to consider writing off  the 'illegitimate debts' owed by the poor nations of the world noting ' The debt crisis remains one of the key obstacles to fighting poverty and indeed militating against HIV/AIDS  in the poor nations'.

As the World Social Forum enters its 3rd day in Nairobi top Notch Chief executives are said to be in Davos , Switzerland for the world Economic Forum. In Nairobi, the participants are calling for a better social order while in Davos, they are seeking ways of making more profits and then ploughing some back to the society.
