Slow path back to work
« on: June 05, 2014, 06:12:18 am »
I've been trying to get back into work now for a couple of years. I realized by the end of last year beginning of this one that, the gaps in my resume / cv were a bit too big.

Since February I've been doing a Certifcate 3 of Business Administration, As of 5th of June I have passed all my subjects except a practical/ simulated business work experience... two more sessions to go on that.

I'm rewriting my cv and cover letters etc for jobs but also have had a nice offer from one of the local HIV/ Aids service organisations to go and get some work experience / unpaid internship with them. So I'll work for them 3 or 4 days per week for a few months through to November and upgrade my Cert 3 to Cert 4 with night classes (4 nights per week). I can get a bit of government support while I study, not enough to cover my rent, but at least wont just be spending my own savings.

I expect to be thoroughtly exhausted at the end of each week, but I am hoping that I'll land myself a decent job by Xmas.

Will keep you all posted

I know this isn't an easy thing to do.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

I worked 2 days at the ASO, when the manager said "oops we forgot, you need to have a criminal records check done before you can start".

Six weeks later, I've finally been cleared, bloody slow process! I started there again last Monday.

College is going ok although I have some crazy long days 13 hours or so between leaving home in the morning for the internship and getting home from evening college.

I'm determined to do this, and I will!
