I accidently quit smoking....I think
« on: December 30, 2008, 02:26:13 pm »
It all started when I went to my mom's for the Christmas holidays on Friday before Christmas.  Although my mom knows I smoke, I never do it around her or in the house.  As a matter of fact I always try to sneak around and do it, so most visits my smoking decreases to 1/4 of what it is normally, perhaps even less than that.  When I got to my mom's I only had 3 cigarettes left and thought I would buy a pack on Saturday morning.  I only had one problem I had left my bank card at my apt and had no cash, so I was unable to buy any until I could get to my bank, which happens to have a branch near my hometown, on Monday morning.  When Monday rolled around i just decided to try and see how long I could go without smoking.  I was fine until I returned home to Louisville this past weekend.  On the trip back all I could think of was having a smoke.  When I got here the first thing I did was buy a pack and light a cigarette.  It was nasty, I put it out and threw the pack away.  So far so good!  Although I have cravings, my house certainly smells better, my clothes will eventually smell better and I have already saved a total of $40.  If I keep this up it will eventually amount to a savings of over $1200 for the year!!!  Health improvements aside, saving that much money is a major incentive for me to stay on this track!!!

However and whatever got you to put 'em down, I'm glad for you.

I get an occasional hit from just smelling the smoke when I pass someone who's smoking. But otherwise I'm grateful to have gone for a significant time now without a cigarette. I do miss having an excuse to use the really beautful Porsche lighter I have, but weighing that pleasure against all of the risks that come with smoking...

Keep going, Woods. Great way to start you New Year!

VERY cool!  Sounds like a healthy challenge for you.  See how long you can go--the old, "don't quit quitting' thing.  It may be helpful to attach the dollar amount as a goal.  Keep adding up the money you save each time you 'miss' buying a pack.

Good luck and good for you!!!!!!!!

OR put that same amount of money in a jar each time you would likely have been spending it for butts and keep it for something you'd really like to do or have as a replacement in your life...

Good for you Woods, try to stay off the cigs.  I gave up 5 years ago and know how tough it can be at first.  It does get easier and easier.

My brother (aged only 51) died of lung cancer within 4 months of being diagnosed.  He smoked his whole life and always preached about how cigarettes where harmless.  They're NOT.

Woohoo! Good for you. I wish my boyfriend and I would accidently quit smoking. We both have a cold and are still trying to smoke and coughing our guts out. Actually my bf has a patch on and seems to be doing ok, me on the other hand........

I'm so happy for you. Keep up the good work.

You quit accidentally??  Hmmm...  do you ever find yourself accidentally backing up onto a .......  oh, never mind -- but a great big WOO HOO to you.  Quitting smoking was the hardest thing that I have ever done -- but I am so happy that I did it (16 yrs this Jan 21).  Keep it up -- it does get easier.  Focus on what you've already discovered, your house, clothes and other stuff will smell better -- you will be ABLE to smell things better and you will save tons of money to spend in Boston.
Hope I get to meet a smoke free Wood in August.

Hugs,
Mike
