My ex-co worker told me urine can be used as some kind of beauty toner for the face  :o and I don't think she was joking

As far as yerba mate, I like it. Funny thing, my doctor said his wife -who's from Chile and most Chileans according to him-- are very particular about their yerba mate. He said she said if mate comes in a tea bag then it's not "real" ... Gosh, he makes her sound like some kind of snob about it. Goodness.

For me, perhaps it was the placebo effect, but mate seemed to help with energy and alertness. I like the taste now but didn't at first

Does anybody know how much epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) Yerba mate contains?

This is the compound in Green Tea that inhibits HIV binding to CD4 receptors, and is now being investigated as a possible adjunct HIV therapy.

I did a bit of research yesterday, and failed to come up with a good answer.

Hmmm, thanks ... I did not know about any of that until now! I wonder why my doctor didn't say anything or maybe he did and I just wasn't listening

Apparently white tea (a sub-type of green) contains even higher levels of EGCG - and personally I think it tastes better... ;)

I wonder, ... Is it processed differently, that allows for a higher concentration of ECGC ? It does come from the same plant right ?? (Camellia sinensis )

Have to ask my nutritional people about this, tomorrow.. Get their thoughts...

I buy mine from Planet Organic at Torrington Place (side road to Tottenham Cross Road in Central London). They have both a Fair Trade and a Clipper version. Have been pondering buying it loose over the Internet, instead of teabags, though. Planet Organic is excellent for other stuff too... :)

I meant where did you get the information that there is more EGCG in white tea compared to green tea. D'oh!  :D

I walk past Planet Organic quite a bit. Lots of scarily anaemic people in there - one blood sausage would go a long way!  :D

Maybe you should set up a stall outside? ;D

I remember reading about it somewhere on my travels but of course now I can't find it again. Perhaps I misunderstood. I found this though:
