We've had topics about losing our sense of gay community and jokes about gay stereotypes and negatives about being gay. What would you say are the best things about being gay?
1. For those of us in a relationship, being called DINKS is kinda cool.
2. Being recognized as gay by a sales clerk, cashier, whatever and getting quicker and better service in a checkout line.
3. Being catered to by a gay waiter.
4. Sex without love is often ok.. for all those involved.
5. Still being a little bit on the 'fringe' of society with a bit of mystique.
6. Having straight friends ask questions about gays, as if I'm an expert on all that's queer.
7. When female friends ask about anal sex and how to make it enjoyable! ;)
8. When sales people (males) give the recognition nod (and / or wink and smile) and ask how we're doing as they pass by when we're at the home improvement store.
9. Discovering that my gaydar is still as sharp as ever.
10. Sex... and lots of it and being called a ho or a slut isn't so bad!
I know there's more.... so add what you think is great about being gay

It's hilarious how straight men ask me what's my "secret" to "getting" all these pretty girls? LOL! :D :D
Here's my secret: I'm not trying to screw them! :D
They just love my style, energy and wit ;D No ulterior motive!
-
Allopath alluded to this:
1. Having a great non sexual friendship with a woman. Being "sisters".
2. Being an artist....having great taste and sense of design and color.

Loving a good musical. They make me so happy!

Playin with other guys throbbing hot cocks!!!

I woulda put that as my #1, but I didn't want to look like a slut or a ho! ;)

Sorry AC, don't know how else to get in touch with you but are you bi? in an open marriage? You have the love of cock (unless that was a joke, but I don't think so) even after the cheating and getting infected event. Would like to chat with you sometime, your thoughts and opinions are interesting.
Anyway, keeping on topic - nothing like the feel of five o'clock shadow against your face, stomach and other body parts.

Yes (although we did try to define me once and bi WASNT quite right!!!!). Yes (but it depends on your definition of open) And PM me anytime. My life on here is pretty open.

I agree about the lack of children thing. Although I know a lot of gay couples that are planning on adopting. Luckily me and my boyfriend both think that's nuts.
Also lack of pressure about having to get married or something. There's no need to have like this perfect relationship or this ideal, stereotypical life. You're more or less free to live how you'd like without many social expectations on you.
+ hot guys.

Fresh spunk on your stomach. Especially good it the spunk comes from a bloke who's thinks he's straight (ahem) Maybe a good thing about all sex involving blokes :D
Close second is Chritmas with a bunch of friends, not with blood relations

The best thing about being a gay man is that women are not involved. Women are the gatekeepers of heterosexual sex. My single straight male friend have to make all kinds of efforts to get a woman to have sex with them. A gay man, no matter what he looks like, can have sex, no strings (or even names) attached with very effort.

Absolutely NOTHING. lolz. I think each person has good qualities but being gay or straight doesnt bring them about. Being gay doesnt make me better or worse.
-
I've always thought of being gay as analagous to the fact that I'm left-handed.
I get to be in a minority, and no one knows exactly why I deviated from the norm like that... even though many theories on both subjects abound. Mostly, I just confuse science. Rock!
But neither being gay, nor being left-handed... while an interesting topic of conversation for all of two minutes... make me feel extraordinarily special.
I can spot both qualities in other people in like two seconds flat though. It's pretty sweet.

Man sex...it does a body good! ;D

..You can make fun of other Gay guys and not look like a Bigoted Asshole, just a critic.
C'mon frankly we've all seen gays that need to have their shit read.
...You can make fun of straight guys and be taken seriously. " Jesus Bob, that tie looks like you ate a box of Crayons and threw up...."
..You can simultaniously be an Outcast, James Dean Cool , and Fabulous..
..And the guys are a nice bonus.....

Well on my last trip from Washington a male flight attendant recognized my partner and I as being a bear with his bear cub and he gave us free earphones and second servings very discreetly. It was sort of funny but we liked the special attention.

Being left-handed won't get your ass kicked or prevent you from marrying who you want. I can't remember the last time I heard of a 'southpaw bashing'. I'd say that there's a bit more to it than being left-handed.

Actually, my grandfather was ridiculed in school by his teachers and had his hand tied down to prevent him from writing with his left hand.
There have been stories of parochial teachers telling students that using the left hand is equivalent to being "the tool of Satan." Having their left hands smacked when they tried to write with the left hand, etc.
And there still is discrimination against a lot of other left-handed people in some places around the world.
I suppose too, if I wanted to go into linguistic oppression, I could... "sinister" coming from the Latin word for left, whereas we say things like "you're right." Or sitting on the "right hand of God" and all that... if I was a far more sensitive person, I guess I could be offended by it.
But speaking personally, I've never had my ass kicked for either quality.

Heteroflexible is what we called in college.

I was actually making a legitimate point about there being a 'slight' difference between being gay and being left-handed. Perhaps both are just genetics, but that's only part of it. It's kinda like saying having AIDS is analogous to having a cold.

You're right.
And I was making a legitimate point about not being an attendee at the "I'm Gay, So Woe Is Me or Look How Fabulous I Am" party. To me, to my personal experience... being gay is as socially and emotionally consequential as being left-handed.
I really just don't care that much about either one. And I have yet to encounter too many people who do either.
-
This was an attempt at a humorous post. Most of the points folks posted were for fun, not as a "I'm Gay, So Woe Is Me or Look How Fabulous I Am" party. Give yourself a few more years and you might see that it is a bigger deal than being left-handed. Maybe, you'll be one of the fortunate gay guys who never see a bit of discrimination, etc, which is how it should be anyway.

Thanks for being condescending.
I know... I'm wrong because I'm young.
Typical.

Good things about being gay - hmmmm
The scent of leather and having a man kneeling before you, spit-shining your police motorcycle boots.
The ability to sing the lyrics to every show tune ever written (even while shopping at Homo Depot).
Being able to appreciate the cut of a motorcycle cop's uniform - even while he is giving you a ticket.
Having Gaydar, even when the other man - or his wife - is chagrined to find you do.
No children.
HUGS,
Mark

Oh...another good thing about being gay: Homo Depot.
The sweet feeling I get inside when I see all the boys choosing paints and fixtures....
The lesbians over in the lumber section...
*sigh*

We were at Lowe's one Saturday and I swear it was just like that. The guys were picking out appliances, window treatments, etc and the lesbians were hauling out lumber and concrete mix. How funny.

Not at all, and typical of what? I felt the same way when I was much younger, too, that's all I mean. People older than me still tell me I'll understand when I get older (ie, more experienced). I think most of the older gay guys will tell you that being gay isn't as simple as genetics, that's all.
-
David-
LOL! I know- that's why I said that...it's always that way! Cracks me up! I swear, I get such a good feeling in the home stores. I see more of our couples there and it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
It reminds me of when me and my ex went to the big party weekend in Pensacola a few years back:
There were all the boys staring at the assembly instructions for their beach tents- completely vexed.
Meanwhile, the lesbians are right next to them assembling canopied high-rises, for pete's sake!
-
I've also noticed more lesbians buying trees and shrubs and gays with smaller plants and flowers in the garden center. Hmmm...
I don't know what it is about Home Depot, but the male sales people (or whatever they're called) are really friendly to D and I. I know that there are a few gay guys working there and it's not so hard to recognize us as a couple. If I go in alone, they're not as friendly. Lowe's isn't nearly as friendly like that, but there's always a LOT of really hot men there on weekday mornings.
