Semen in eye?
« on: January 23, 2013, 08:12:57 am »
Hello everyone,

Thank you for accepting me in your forum.

So, here is my story:

About 4 weeks ago I had an encounter with some unknown guy. We used condom during the anal intercourse and - as I always do - I prevented him from ejaculating inside me, even if condom was always where it should have been.

Instead, he ejaculated on my face. I kept my eyes shut of course, but somehow, 10 seconds later a drop found its way into my shut eye and it immediately felt irritated. Unfortunately, given the weird circumstances of the incident, I couldn't have immediate direct access to running water. The only thing that I could use at that time was plenty of dry tissues...

Only an hour later I could finally wash the area with plenty of fresh water. However, my eye was itchy and sensitive for approximately 3 days after the incident, not continuously but at times it was really intense. You couldn't see that something was wrong in the mirror, but you could sense it.

I was worried from the first second, because I know that the guidelines suggest PEP for a semen-eye contact. However I didn't go for it, as the whole process in my country is complicated and I was more afraid of the drugs than of a possible infection. To be honest.. I don't know what are the odds of infection for this type of exposure and as time passes by I get even more worried and i am thinking I should have done the PEP instead.. 2 weeks after the incident I had a minor cold. But I mean only cold: renal mucus and a changed voice. No cough, no fever, no swallen lymphs, no rash. It lasted for 3-4 days. Normally, I wouldnt get worried with a cold like this, but the timing was the worst it could be! And I dont really know how a real AR Syndrome feels like!

Anyways, now it's definately late for PEP and I have to wait a couple of weeks before I get tested. But can anyone tell me if I should be worried? Could I be infected?

Thank you!

This is NOT an HIV situation. Notwithstanding the rare and unconfirmed reports of blood to eye transmission (there has not been a substantiated claim of semen to eye transmission) the amount of time it took for the semen to enter your eye was more than enough time for environmental factors (temperature, oxygen, pH) to neutralize any  active viral particles.

This is absolutely not an HIV concern.
