For those who are attending Montreal, please feel free to suggest a song for the 2006 CD compilation.   Our dearest friend, red ronnie,  originally pioneered this for 2005 as a collection of songs that mean something to each of us.

It's  time to put together a new compilation cd of music.... tracks will likely be limited to about 18 songs due to space limits.... but this is your chance to suggest a song that means something special to you.  I don't know if i'll have them available at the gathering or just a single copy for playing at the meet&greet, but it will be included with the dvd i send you all.

Now, this is a blatent copyright infrigement thing, so shhhhhhh.   or is it being creative with creative commons licenses :P

Anyways, suggest the song that means the most to you lately.   Something that maybe empowers you and 'gets you through the day'.

There will be no votes but I will try to accomodate all of your requests in this compilation, but it does have limits (about 18 songs to a music cd)... Or just make your own :)  These are just songs that ring true to us and have personal meaning.

This was a great part of last year, though not directly related to the AMG.

for simplicity sake.. could you suggest one for the cd... certainly name others that means something... but I'm gonna go with the first one each person posts... first cum first served... i think.. well.. unless it sucks in my arbitrary elitist opinion    i guess we can then stop for the completely unofficial cd, but continue it for personal downloads

regarding my elitist opinion, I don't care if it's country or rock or pop... just that the lyrics have a message that may be meaningful to us.   If a song has special meaning to you... don't be afraid to post a bit about WHY it has special meaning for you.

if you can provide a full title and artist that is great.   If not, I can probably search for it, but I won't know for sure it's the song you picked even if i do find it.  so that may make it less likely to be included... just sayin...  especially if I don't see any meaning in it.   If you also have a song, I can be contacted via several messaging services... so if you have a hard copy of it, you can just send me the bitch and there will be NO confusion.   otherwise, you are left to my lackluster searching capabilities

Please, Please try to include an artist and full song name..... I'm not trying to be picky but say... a song by the name of 'love' isn't gonna help me find it.   Please edit your posts if you find the fuller titles of them

i really want to include some sound and/or video of people saying what these songs mean to them... and why it means something... this is totally personal... there is no right or wrong answer....

please note I plan on only including people on the cd who actually attend.   sorry if that's sound mean or harsh, or wrong, but there are limited spots... and I'm still going with the idea that it should be the first 18 or so who post.... feel free to edit your posts... I would prefer if a video might be available for download on one of the services like limewire.... or if you have a link for the video for download.... all the better.

I hope to conduct some one-on-one interviews/confessionals up there... sit hould take just a couple mins per person, but i want to include these thoughts to give background to why it means something to THAT person... and it should mean something... what it means is up to you... just that it have meaning.  Really, I'd be looking for a paragraph of voice/text to describe the songs and what it means to you.

Songs without meaning at all might be discluded... traditional songs like 'we are family' don't necessarily need description but i'd like it anyways.   even a voice clip of people.

For the dvd, i'd like to include videos of all the artists and songs if possible, that's alot harder than finding the basic songs on download, but i'll try.

I'm still forming ideas myself, so bear with me... but keep posting your songs.... because we all love new or newish songs or even oldies, to dowload.

edit: SEE THE UPDATED LIST AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS THREAD

Now for the UNofficial list thus far:  (and I still can't guarantee this if I can't find the individual songs (if I can't I'll PM you)

If I screwed up or missed someone who is attending, please let me know... wine is not my friend.  I'm not sure of who all is attending so if I listed a song and you aren't attending, it will eventually be replaced with a choice of someone who is /sorry :(

Feel free to change your choices till then.. .I might too :)  I plan to really finalize this about August 1.  If we get alot, and I mean alot more suggestions than can fit, we may do some type of vote thingie, but I'd prefer not to.

7/17 EDIT:  i'm really really closing suggestions out as of this friday july 21.  I think we are full now and I need to start churning and burnign... I plan to have 50 disks available for the meet & greet for whoever is attending and send some copies via mail to special people like ann, who can't attend.  i expect some 40 or so people attending.   do we have a nubmer including locals?

My goal is to include as many songs as possible, but I am limited by the media (if i have to cut a song it will be canucks... it's 7 minutes long and while in french... most of us just won't get it no matter what... i can edit it to reduce the extremely long musical intro but since it's still in french, which most of us don't speak, the meaning is lost on most of us.. and this cd should be about meaning.  I'd suggest that you canuck propose a new song as a contingency.

I hate making decisions like this cuz i feel like i'm fucking somebody over or not respecting them.. (i've also emailed two people about their songs and they have been replaced because they lacked 'meaning' or emotion).

I know I can't please everyone, but i'm trying.  But as some say, I'm just a 'fucking snob'.

Ultimately it will really be decided by what 'fits' phsycially on the cd and what 'fits' having some emotional reason to include it.

I hope you all understand that and respect my hard choices without faulting me for it or being hurt because that is my farththest intention.  Even the two people i messaged, i wrote a book to them about it and constantly reiterated I felt like shit having to do that.

My only real requirements ever were that the song you suggest mean something to you personally and have some 'emotional' meaning.

Frankly, I'll say I'm not fond of alot of songs on here that have been suggested.  But it's not my place to pick and choose what i like for the cd.  The reason i emailed those two was to check if they had some emotional attachment to it (which both responded they didn't), so i removed them.

I know I MIGHT  screw up but, if i do, please forgive me, I'm not trying to hurt anyone, but just put together something nice.

Bailey-  there is a song from Wicked that I think will sum up the event perfectly called " For Good"

Leave it to me to suggest a showtune.  What a fag.... :-)  Give it a listen and see what you think.

Jonathan just sent me this fabulous CD of music he put together. I doin't know who the artist is, but there is one very special song I listen to over, and over again. I have to wait for him to come up for air, and then wait to see if he'll either answer his phone or check his PM's (like those things will ever happen)
On second thought, I have this really cool CD, but I don't know who the artist is. I'll have to bring it so you can hear it.

Artist Peter Gabriel
CD-So

Don't Give Up

in this proud land we grew up strong
we were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail

no fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
but no one wants you when you lose

don't give up
'cos you have friends
don't give up
you're not beaten yet
don't give up
I know you can make it good

though I saw it all around
never thought I could be affected
thought that we'd be the last to go
it is so strange the way things turn

drove the night toward my home
the place that I was born, on the lakeside
as daylight broke, I saw the earth
the trees had burned down to the ground
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up
we don't need much of anything
don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
where we belong

rest your head
you worry too much
it's going to be alright
when times get rough
you can fall back on us
don't give up
please don't give up

'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
going to stand on that bridge
keep my eyes down below
whatever may come
and whatever may go
that river's flowing
that river's flowing

moved on to another town
tried hard to settle down
for every job, so many men
so many men no-one needs

don't give up
'cause you have friends
don't give up
you're not the only one
don't give up
no reason to be ashamed
don't give up
you still have us
don't give up now
we're proud of who you are
don't give up
you know it's never been easy
don't give up
'cause I believe there's the a place
there's a place where we belong

DingoBoi,

Since the gathering is in Montreal and it's a very Frenchy place, then I think it must include at least one '' French '' track. Obviously it wouldn't be easy for the English speaking to understand it much, yet I think there's one most American knows and recorded by Grace Jones in the early 80s if I remember correctly. The title of the song is '' La Vie En Rose ''. It was originally recorded by Edith Piaf ( France ) in the late 40s / early 50s I think, and although this is the best version of it ( for a French that is ) the Grace Jones' version has a '' disco feel '' and better known version, for Americans that is.

So my choice would be : La Vie En Rose by Grace Jones

The Canuck

P.S. This one is for ya' Rocky...in case you don't know the loose translation of this title is '' The Life In Pink ''...this is TOTALLY you.   :P

Dingo

Limiting us to 1 choice sucks.

I can't do it, but after much (and I do mean much) thought, I've limited it to one artist.

Tina Turner.

Song choices in order:

1.  The Best--because it moves me and I believe its true of every one of us who are living with HIV to the "best" of our abilities.  If you opt for one of my suggestions, this would be the one I hope for.

Edited to remove suggestions 2 - 4

RAB

(Who was torn between many and hates he can't include Patti LaBelle, Elton John, Rod Stewart, and so on and so on.)

i don't want to... but space limits on a music cd dictate that... 18 songs about.... i think it more fair to limit it to one person per song... than to include multiple songs per person..... that way i get 18 people's suggestions here rather than 10-12.

I know it sucks, but suggest the song that means the most to you, in relation to the AMG.

i can include a list of songs suggested with the unofficial cd from this thread... but for the cd, i can only include one song.

This is to be all inclusive... if I don't get 18 songs suggested, i'll come back and fill in with others you all have suggested in addition to your primary song

Hi Bailey,

What a wonderful idea...

Here is my song suggestion:

"BREAKAWAY" by Kelly Clarkson

My reason(s):  One day in November or December (not sure which, if even it was one of those months, whatever...) when I lived in NY, I was driving home from the ID doc, and I wasn't in a good place as far as my mental & emotional state was concerned.  My thoughts on this day were about "how do I get myself out of this rut I was in and kick the feeling of being stuck."  My mind was racing to a million different things, and for a very long time, especially since joining AM and meeting some of you in Toronto, I've had this strong need to "come out."  I've always thought about all the stories you all have about fearing disclosure because of the stigma and discrimination & those stories have stuck with me.  As I was driving along on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn, thinking of all of these things, I began to shed some tears.  And there it was on the radio, like a beacon of light, Kelly Clarkson's song "Breakaway."  I became so hysterical, my eyes clouded with tears, that I had to pull over.  I listened to the entire song and cried like a baby.  It was at this moment that I truly knew I had to do something, but still wasn't sure what it was I was supposed to do.  I posted about this incident when it happened, and it became clear that it was my time to come out publicly.  I realized it was time for me to get over my fears...it was time to disclose to the world.  I love this song, and it is my theme song...

And it goes like this: (thank goodness I'm not on Audio singing this, I suck.)

"Breakaway"
by Kelly Clarkson

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I'd just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I'd end up happy
I would pray

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I'd pray
I could break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jetplane
Far away
And break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
I'll do what it takes till I touch the sky.
Make a wish, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget all the ones that I love.
I'll take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging with revolving doors
Maybe I don't know where they'll take me
Gotta keep movin on movin on
Fly away
Break away

I'll spread my wings and I'll learn how to fly.
Though it's not easy to tell you goodbye
Take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away.
Out of the darkness and into the sun.
But I won't forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk, take a chance,
Make a change, and break away
Breakaway
Break away

I found it fitting for me & my life.  And, besides, this is the one and only song that I would ever suggest for this project... Next year, I hope to have a different one though.

Thanks for doing this Bailey.

Love,

Trish :-*

Bailey,

I'll be glad to give you a paragraph on why I like We Are Family so much

I am a product of the 'disco era'.  I love 70's disco music, having lived it first hand.  I used to go disco dancing every weekend, and even entered a contest or two.   I saved one disco shirt, it is silvery metallic thread.

Even though this song came out near the end of the era (it was '79 I think), it is still pretty reflective of the times.

I like We Are Family as much now, or even more than I did when it first came out.   This group of folks (A.M.) truly is a family, in every sense of the word.

Hugs,

Alan

I still stand behind FOR GOOD from Wicked.  It think it is the perfect song for the situation.

GLINDA
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you:

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

ELPHABA
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
By being my friend:
Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you:

GLINDA
Because I knew you:

BOTHI have been changed for good

ELPHABA
And just to clear the air
I ask forgiveness
For the things I've done you blame me for

GLINDA
But then, I guess we know
There's blame to share

BOTH
And none of it seems to matter anymore

GLINDA ELPHABA
Like a comet pulled Like a ship blown
From orbit as it Off it's mooring
Passes a sun, like By a wind off the
A stream that meets Sea, like a seed
A boulder, half-way Dropped by a
Through the wood Bird in the wood

BOTH
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
I do believe I have been changed for the better?

GLINDA
And because I knew you:
ELPHABA
Because I knew you:

BOTH
Because I knew you:
I have been changed for good.

You named the song I was talking about!!!!
James Blunt "Your Beautiful"     so technically, #2, and #6 are the same.

There are several of his songs on this CD, but I like that one best.

However........We are Family gets my vote hands down.

DingoBoi,

The reason for my choice of the song '' La Vie En Rose '' from Grace Jones

#1 I think we need a little something in French, but still interesting to Americans as she does a little part in English. This my main reason for this particular choice.

#2 This is a nice love song .

#3 It was a hit in 1977 ( disco time ) and obviously several attendees of AMG06 lived it ( inclduign myself ).  ;)

Here's a video of the song ( introduced in German...possibly from German TV ) for those who never heard the song, or remembering it ( brain fog ) .  :o

Dearest Bailey,

I withdraw my nomination.  The Dead Kennedy's might be a bit over the edge for even our group.  Please free up your CD space and honor the disco era.

Hugs man, Ric

ric, so you know, i was teasing... about the f word... it's fine for inclusion in the cd.... i haven't heard the song and dont' know what it's like but I trust all of you to only suggest something worthy.

Now, if you wish to modify and change your submission to another song, that is fine.   I will keep that spot reserved for you as long as i can...( basically all of june and july)

If you really want to change that, i t's fine... if you want to keep i t, it's fine.  But i will not write you off as a submissor in any event... if you really don't like the song for the amg... pick another.. .your spot is here...

By: Peter Cincotti
Song: Some Kind of Wonderful

All you have to do is touch my hand
To show me that you understand
And something happens to me
That's some kind of wonderful
Anytime my little world turns blue
I just have to look at you
Everything seems to be some kind of wonderful

I know I can't express this feeling of tenderness
There's so much I wanna say
But the right words just don't come my way
I just know when I'm in your embrace
This world is a happy place
And something happens to me
That's some kind of wonderful

I know I can't express this feeling of tenderness
There's so much I wanna say
But the right words just don't come my way
I just know when I'm in your embrace
This world is a happy place
And something happens to me
That's some kind of wonderful
Oh wonderful, some kind of wonderful

Oh my god.

I had tears in my eyes when I heard "for good" from "Wicked".
It is so beautiful, so true, so inspiring.

Can I download it somewhere from?

Still having goosebumps....

It needed to be back on top...there are still several songs missing for a complete CD.

By the way Bailey, if there's not too many additions up to August 1st then can we pick another song (extra ) for the CD at the end of July ?

I haven't been able to get the great Aretha Franklin song out of my head for about three weeks now. I know I already said that I like 'Beautiful', but nothing seems to fit our group better than

      R - E - S - P - E - C - T
            .......sockittome sockittome sockittome

If you don't like it, that OK, just thought I'd toss that thought into the ring.

i want to start finalizing the list of songs for the cd.

If you haven't suggested one, this is your last call.

and i mean very last call.  I hope that we can fill up the slots with at least one song from each person.... there are about 18 slots available on a standard cd for songs....

I would have hoped more people who were attending would have suggested songs, but that's ok.. we'll just add songs of people who actually participate and have suggested songs already...

I never imagined it this hard to get songs suggested from about 35 people who are attending.

but since it is... ehh..

ya know .. fuck it..

the slots are now open game for anybody.

suggest a song, if i think it's appropriate in some manner then it's on

prior contirubtors, please submit a second song if you like to fill up the EMPTY in the cd.

I would like to include "Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season" by Jimmy Buffett.  Wonderful lyrics..especially in the chorus:

"and now I must confess, I could use some rest;
I can't run at the pace very long;
Yes it's quite insane; I think it hurts my brain;
but then it cleans me out and then I can go on."

It's an older song from the 70s... I have an mp3 of it if that will help...not sure how to email it, but can try if you need me to.

If there's still a slot open, I nominate Josh Groban's You Raise Me Up, in honor of Zephyr....who lifts me up all the time.

Bailey,

Please consider Jacques Brel's "If We Only Have Love" (1975) from the Broadway show 'Jacques Brel Is Alive and Living in Paris'.  It is very moving and is just as good today as it was 30+ years ago.

See you in Montreal, Ric

ok... we have a good selection of songs... i'm gonna shut down new suggestions since we've almost reached our limit... so if anybody who is attending wants to suggest a further song, Feel free to add to the potential list if you want to suggest a special song.  I'll add it to the potential list... not sure what the 'fit' is right now since some of the songs are much longer than the typical 3-4 minutes.

Keep suggesting if you are attending and haven't put in a song yet!

I'll keep adding as they fit but otherwise i'm gonna go with the songs we have *unless the requesters modify them* I hope to have a final list soon.

it's possible i may decide to ask the requesters of those very long songs to submit a new request or i might edit the song to a shorter version.

I am torn between some choices, lower energy and high.

Hallelujiah as performed by Rufus Wainwright

or

Numa Numa by O-Zone :)

or

three degrees: when will I see you again

I could think of more, I have music all over me. But thats what Ive been drawn to, these nights.

Re: Suggestions CLOSE on FRIDAY. NOTHING more after that for the CD
« Reply #62 on: July 17, 2006, 11:18:26 pm »

Bailey,

If it fits and not too long I'd like '' Everybody Hurts '' by REM. If not, no big deal.

done :)

if you prefer the original sugguestion, I still believe it will fit.  Would you like me to still try that first and keep this as an alternate?

PS:  I'm buying the burner and disks tonight so I should know pretty soon with a demo disk exactly what is gonna fit

Bailey...

I think I speak for most of us who are going to Montreal when I say I appreciate your hard work and your efforts in making this CD.  Whether you're able to "fit' all the songs suggested or NOT....I'm quite certain it will mean a lot to all of us.  Thank You!

You're one heck of a deputy dawg and we love you! :-*

and this is out of pocket.. my contribution to the amg...

for rab to add to the contribution 'tally'

$0.66 per cd x 50 = $33.33  each disk will take up to 30 minutes to burn due to the lightscribe image lable (ugh.. fuck me)  and that's 2 disks per person a total of about 50 hours burn time ... do you love me yet?

another 50 cd's for the commmorative photo cd/dvd $33.33

50 double holder dvd cases $40 (may be able to find cheaper online)

Printed inserts $0.30 x 50 = $15

mail $.050 x 50 = $25.00 (will have to mail the 2nd video cd)  yes, I will need your addresses.   I'm not sure how to handle that... some people may not be comfortable giving out addresses and that's fine... perhaps andy or tim could collect them and distribute the finished products with me providing postage and shipping containers.   I'm not sure what people feel comfortable with.

But bottom line is you won't get the dvd of the event if you don't provide your address.. but i will have the cd there for the event (obviously i can't have the dvd since it has to be done after the event)

So rounding that off it's $150 contribution indirectly to the amg.

That's my gift to you all (and what I can happily afford especially since i just got a $2300 annual raise)

I just wanted to contribute something that would be memorable and a keepsake maybe.

So.. it's not just pocket change to me to try to do this right, but you all are worth it and I wanted to contribute something.  (plus i had to buy a $100 burner but i can return that maybe :P .. actually i'll keep it because i think it's cool to lightscribe labels on a disk)

oh, and i do plan on publishing this to youtube and blogging it.

***NOTICE*** if anyone is the least uncomfortable having their face on camera, please let me know... by pm or whatever method.  That's completely ok and I understand.   Being on camera will not mean you are HIV positive unless you say so, but there is the oft quoted 'guilt by association.   Maybe rab and killfoile or somebody can help me navigate this sensitive issue.. or anyone... i want everybodies input.

I think most people here are comfortable having their face plastered on this website (as evidenced by your avatars), but I DO NOT want to make anybody uncomfortable in attending the event and I DO NOT want to include face shots of people who do not wish to be included.   I am very sensitive to this issue and DO NOT wish anyone to be afraid to attend because there might be cameras.

Now, we are a big bunch of photo/video takers... so if you don't want something published, you do need to speak up.   Nobody will think less of you in any manner I can assure you.  I believe the majority attending to be very open, but that isn't the case with every individual and I do not wish to put undue stress on anyone.

I think I will try to have some type of photo release form.. probably at tim's conference, where I also plan to distribute the cd's,  so that we know who is willing to have their pictures published and who doesn't want them.  Remember, my blog is just not on here at aidsmeds/poz.com but also on youtube which has a much wider audience base.

I'm just giving fair warning.  I want this to be a safe and comfortable environment for everyone and if you are not comfortable having your picture in my blog or posted then you will be asked to opt out... and all those who are willing will be asked to opt in.

This is all new for me, so i'm not sure how to proceed but am sensitive to peoples concerns.  Please speak to me here or by pm if you have any concerns at all.

Hey Dingo:

This part of the gathering you are working on is so imaginative and unique I can't think of anyone better suited to do it.  I don't even know what in the heck a "burner" is for cripe sake.   :-[

Thanks buddy for all your hard work, financial contribution, and sensitivity to the wishes of others.

Hi Bailey,

Thanks for doing this. It takes a lot of your time and no doubts this is sincerely appreciated by everyone attending.

For the shipment, if you have to ship me a DVD-R after the gathering I'll give you the money in Montreal as I feel you don't have to pay for the shipping on top of everything.

Canuck... no compensation is needed.. this is my gift to you all.

I only included the cost so rab could add it to the total tally of what's been given.  My contribution is only a teeny tiny part of that.  I haven't done alot for the amg getting this together.. well actually i've done NOTHING... to help get this together.. that's not my forte, but the wonderful group of people we have here have.

What I can do is provide the cd and after the event a dvd (i hope) of the events... the cost really is minimal compared to what many generous donors have given (over $7k i believe).

If you like, you can buy me a beer, which I'll happily accept, though if you all buy me a beer, well, then the video will be like AMG GONE WILD!

maybe not a good thing.

I just wanted to do something special.  Am I sure I can pull it off?  NOPE.  that scares me.   I haven't tried this before.

and by the way, mailing costs will be minimal.. as I plan on having the cases and cover art all at the amg.  It just didn't make sense to mail them later at higher cost.

so the only thing that needs to be mailed is a single CD after the event to complete the 'commemorative dvd/cd package'.

That's like a stamp here in the US, which is somethign i'm happy to pay.

I wanted to contribute and I found MY way to contribute.

The product won't be top notch... but then, you get what you pay for :P

But I hope the cd music and the eventual video means something to people to remember how powerful an event this is... especially when we are feeling down.

this is a sample of what I'm thinking for the design right now.

it has to be in grayscale as lightscribe (how i'm gonna burn it) doesn't do color yet.  The disk is golden, so it's like black on gold... and 'white' areas will be the gold of the cd itself.

I'm not sure If i should include the title and tracks of the songs on it or not... i can include them in the sky above the cityscape but maybe that might be too busy... any thoughts on this from anyone?

the picture of the cityscape is a random picture i found googling for montreal.

for those not familiar with lightscribe, it uses a special cd burner (how you write stuff to the cd) to burn the music and then flip it over and use the same drive to 'etch' a picture onto the label side... no markers, no stickers applied.  very kewl. (though a bit hard to work with for design)

actually i didn't have to do alot of creation design work... the stuff was there.. just had to put it together.  (thank gawd).

I SHOULD have a burned cd in a few minutes... to see what it really looks like.

i'm quivering with an-tici-pah-shun.

oh and to burn a full cd cover on the disc is like 36 minutes accordign to the manual.

fuck me... but it's worth it for you all.

burned the first disk.. i'm not so impressed but it's good.. it's just very very light... just the nature of the medium i suppose.. i wish there was more 'crispness' there... but it still looks good.

teh black really isn't there.. it's more of a darker 'gold'... everything is still light on the disk.. but it does look ok... just wish there was more definition.

so just look at the original picture and imagine it all in gold... light gold for white and dark gold for black.. that's what i got.. unless i messed up on the initial burn and didn't do it in high qualitiy (also a possibility cuz i'm a lush)

Dingo,

Are you printing the label directly on the CD ? If so then it might be a problem in 5-6 months from here. I've seen this once and within 6 months the CD-Rs ( all of them ) were totally unusable. Indeed the ink eventually went through and on the opposite side of the label, the disc had black ink spots all over the surface ( it was a gold CD with label printed in black/grey ) and wouldn't play anymore.

What I mentioned above happened 6-7 years ago and unless they refined this process ( different type of ink by example ) then the same might happen.

The Canuck

There is not ink.  It's lightscribe which uses the dvd burner to etch a label with the laser onto the label side of the disc.

Here is the almost final playlist.

The only thing subject to change is removal of the song 'another beautiful day' if my friend jen can locate the song she wanted.

rich, i kept your song in as i'm not sure if you are attending or not, but even if not, I wanted to include you.

and i need to talk to robert... can't locate your song.   dammit.. knew i forgot something.

PLEASE doublecheck the artist and titles and make sure i didnt' make any other mistakes.  I still have time to make necessary changes/corrections as i will not actually be burning the music for a week or two yet.  (i'll be burning the cover art first without listing titles on the cd itself)

robert.. i found it now :)

will add an updated screenshot in a day or two or 12 :P

but it's added.

I have finalized the cd art ... it's pretty much the same but with minor changes (mostly to my banner graphic to make it crisper as it originally look blurry on the cd) and added a title bar at the top beneath the logo to read 'collectors music of amg'  I've printed about 20 so far.... ugh.. takes forever... but the actual music burn will go quick.. it's the label that takes forever, which is why i started burning the labels early on so i can do a few a day... and then burn all the music in one day on all 50 discs.

okay, since there seems to have been some 'adjustments' to the attendance roster, I am going to open two spots on the cd for those who will attend.

As I understand it now, both cliff and oscar will not be attending (if my understanding is wrong, please correct me.. hey, I'm blonde).  Originally it was just rich whose song i agreed to keep on the cd particular because of the circumstances that it might be painful for him to attend. (no more drama here please).  I won't go back on my word to him here.

Now oscar and cliff are not attending and I really want this to be about people who are attending.  So that leaves 2 slots for songs for those of you who haven't suggested songs yet.

AND WHERE ARE YOU REGULARS WHO POST HERE WHO HAVEN'T SUGGESTED YET?????!?!???!?!?!?!

If nobody submits, I will keep the original songs or possibly replace them with others of my own choosing depending on my fickle blonde moment at the time :P.   I still have adequate, but limited time to finalize the cd.  the covers have been burned, but it does not include track information, so I can alter that at will.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to see some suggestions from people who are attending but who haven't suggested anything yet.

I hope I get those suggestions.   Please try to keep the songs of a 'short' variety (like no long 7 minute sagas)

This is no slight against anyone, just that this should be about people who are attending.

Thanks

I'm new to the AMG forum, but I'll suggest this:

"One of the Living" by Tina Turner.  I've loved it since it came out in '85 and it always makes me square my shoulders and think, "What you got? Bring it on, Biatch!" Helped me through the first weeks of my diagnosis.

I'm just suggestin'

bas and jer and everybody, please realize these are not guaranteed additions, no hurt feelings please.

roger jer.

bas, we already have a tina turner song, not that another wouldn't fit (it's a bit long, but equal to size of one of the songs to be replaced... however, a shorter song may allow 3 total to be added)  I'm disinclined to include another song of an artist already featured.

Hey Bailey,

I would like to submit "Live to Tell" by who else...Madonna.

She is doing a really cool "tribute" if you will to the AIDS pandemic while singing this song during this tour.  It was awesome.  Made me cry at the damn concert.

And we all do "...have a tale to tell"

basquo, please suggest a new song... just by listening to it, i don't think soundwise it will 'fit' on the cd... and i really would like to include 3 new songs and sadly, eliminate a bonus track i've added.

But this isn't about me, however, I will be more picky about these songs to make sure they fit in the theme (i've already messaged a few people about their suggestions that didn't seem to 'fit')

So basically it's open season, but i can only pick two, possibly three, new songs... and that will be left to my personal determination of what to include... ooh, that sounds bitchy or something, but i'll pick the songs that best reflect the emotion of the event in my personal opinion..  This is not first come first served like before.

I hope you all understand that.

and where the fark were you all before??? hrmmmm?????

I will give all songs equal consideration (and if my facts are wrong about attendance, may have to retract a slot or two)

shane, not too late, just want it clear i can't guarantee any suggestions and will pick what fits on the cd physically, with the other songs, and more importantly, emotionally.... something that has reasonable meaning to most hiv poz people.

Dingo,

the more I think about it, the sillier I think my choice is (We Are Family)....but then I'm kinda silly, so I guess it doesn't matter.   I wish I had nominated something uplifting, like Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up".....

oh well, I'm sure the CD will be fabulous, because YOU are doing it!

hugs,

Alan (ok I'll admit it, I really do LOVE disco music)

Dingo, I'll offer one more suggestion, and believe me that as a newcomer I don't expect any special consideration.  This song is upbeat, makes me smile, and makes my ass shake.  And I do need more love every day, though I'm sure I'll get a decade's worth in Montreal! As a former DJ, I leave it to your discretion. Don't Bug the DJ!!!!

madonna 'live to tell' gets a nod
elton john 'candle in the wind' gets a nod (princess di version i think)

basquo... erm.. that song made my brain hurt.... any other suggestions (keep in mind the type of songs that are already on the cd)

again, no guarantees... i have to do a burn test and see what will actually fit after all is said and done and that will likely be the deciding factor of what physically fits on the cd and is appropriate in my elitist opinion.

IMPORTANT:

I really need someone local to bring a 'boombox' cd player to the amg.

I'd like present the cd as background music prior to the lecture by tim horn (if he's not opposed to it)

I'd need some type of boombox with cd capability to present soft background music for the 30 minutes before the presentation starts.

I'm still not sure when to distribute the cd's but i think likely it will be at the seminar event for most.  I'll have copies on me at most times for locals who are popping in to events prior to that but may not be able to attend.

I'd love to have them in the 'gift/welcome' bags that people are getting, but sadly, i won't be there soon enough for that.

I will have a book to submit your addresses to.  This is completely voluntary but is required if you want to receive the dvd of the event after it's finished.  of course, you  could always message me with your details, but i will have a book for addresses there for those who are comfortable with giving some of those private details out.

Unfortunately I don't have a '' boombox ''. However if we get one we can also play it while having dinner at the '' Meet & Greet '' ( soft ) and louder when the dinner is over with.  ;)

for the meet&greet I'd be hoping that they have separate sound systems where they could just play that to us opn the 3rd floor.

it's only 80 min long max.... good for the chatty party of the meet/greet.

I still would love a boombox from someone who can attend... puppy chewed my power cord so it doesn't work anymore, otherwise i'd just  bring my own.

nevertheless, it will work out no matter what... canuck.. could you check to see if they can play a cd on the top floor there for just us?

Their sound system should allow that as most places have different music for differnt floors.

at least i'm hoping.

the cd would be a great intro for the meet/greet.

Dingoboi,

On the 3rd floor there's a space for a DJ so they must have a basic system. They told us in April we can hire a DJ if we want to, but not familiar with that and don't know if normally DJ's must bring some kind of equipments with them. We were there for a short period and didn't notice speakers but it's possible there were some.

They have a small dance floor as well on the third floor..so after we ate and when removing some tables we'll have plenty of space for dancing if we want too.

I'll probably go on the 16th with RAB for a few details and show him the room, then perhaps you can come with us and we'll see exactly what they have. When I give them the number of attendees on the 11th, I'll ask them if they have a sound system on the 3rd floor and if we can play CD's with their own facilities.

Dingoboi,

I forgot and perhaps Sae will be able to confirm this. I think they told us we can bring our own equipment, which possibly meant a hired DJ would have to bring something with him as well. I'll still ask though on the 11th.

these are the credits listed on the dvd slipcover.

Can the AMG or anyone double check them and make sure I haven't missed anyone?

Ignore the bad photo screenshot.. it prints perfectly but looks icky on the monitor.

i've also included a preview of the cover art for the dvd/cd slipcover... it's not finished but gives you an idea of where i'm going.

the music sounds fabulous.. i burned a demo cd and after 'normalizing' the sounds, it's incredible... starts slow and then builds in tempo... i tried to order the song by style so we weren't going from a fast song to an oldie.

The cover is coming along well and looks phenomenal on my test prints thus far (though some of it is placeholder text and alot isn't finished, especially the backside cover part.

i am far from a computer whiz.... i just have alotta time on my hands to figure things out and a few good programs to work with (i don't use photoshop or any complicated programs which is probably why the screenies look like shit, but they still print perfect)

GOOD GOLLY AND WOW!   ;D

You've truly outdone yourself this time.  The cover looks fantastic.  I can't wait to hear the actual music.

There are only two minor points that I have noticed.

The attendees are coming from 5 (not 7) countries.

The presentation by Tim Horn is sponsored specifically  by aidsmeds.com (as it was explained to me the cost is coming entirely out of their budget).  (not sure if that's an important distinction but thought I would mention it)

Some of the donors will not be attending.  (Off the top of my head I think it's 3 or 4 but Jody handled that side of the Grants Committee so he'd know for sure.)

I know you've got a lot of cd's to burn (or whatever in the heck it's called) but was thinking it might be a nice gesture if we could send a copy to those who did donate even though they weren't coming.

I'd be glad to handle the shipping and stuff if I got the cd's (I'm sure I could get the addresses from Jody).

Is that even possible do you think?

Dingo and Canuck...

Sorry I just read this for the first time.

We'd need our own system, there isn't one there.  This I recall quite clearly.

I don't have a boom box, let me think about this.  I DO have a system I could bring, with two small speakers, the issue would be when I could pick it back up again.  I'm sure Canuck and I can work this out.  It plays cd's and tapes, not fancy but it works.  Mostly.

Sae.

That's what I thought but wasn't sure anymore. We'll have to think how and when you can pick it up back if you bring the system you mentioned.

Thanks for the correction on the countries... it was just temporary placeholder text which i was actually gonna verify with you anyway, I just needed something to fill the space to see if it looked okay in design.   for tim's presenation, I'll only give credit to him personally in the credit box for the reason that he is a member and he is giving this as a member (in my interpretation)  I do give special thanks to aidsmeds.com and poz.com in the credits

Hi Bailey dear,

I know I have already requested my song and it's included, thank you.  However, I would like to suggest another... if you can put it in.  If not, no biggie.  The song is the one that Alan dedicated to the women of AM  --  "You Raise me Up" by Josh Groban.  Just a thought, if you have the space.  But like I said, it's no big deal if you can't swing it.  Thanks love... :-*

ugh trish, you are one demanding woman :P

There have been alotta recent changes and a few disks have already been burned (not many)... i'll need to figure out if it possible to replace them or not.

I'll try thought to accomodate that as it does seem meaningful, but please don't be mad if i can't... now it's all about space and prior commitments.

Maybe next years cd should be a 2 cd collection  :o

particularly it's the 3rd segment that i just don't like yet.   I'm good with the first two parts, but it's that thirds that i just don't like yet and don't know how to fix it.

yes, i've thought of that, but they seem very TORONTO centric and i want to avoid that.

It is a good suggestion though and i will review the pics, but I don't want to pick out a couple individuals to represent the amg on the cover.   Dont' want it to seem to be about a couple people.. and i will get shit forever about that from some i think if i did.

Bailey, I don't think what you have written for Segment 3 is that bad.

I 'tweaked' it a little and came up with this:

"For many of us, AMG 06 will be a dream realized through the efforts of many who have conspired (or maybe collaborated is a better word?) to make this event memorable.  This is a group of people who truly care about and support each other on a daily basis."

But -- I'm not a writer!
Where is JONATHAN when we need him???   He could write something for you in no time, I'm sure....

You're doing a great job honey, and I really appreciate all the work you have put into this.

Hugs,
Alan
