A Call from my Doctor

Actually, it was a call from his nurse.

First of all,I have few issues with my ID doc. His personality is non-existent but I don't pay him to entertain me - I pay him to keep me alive, which he's done nicely for the past 11 years. His nurse (also known her 11 years) is just the best. She's the personality of the office. It's a relatively high end complex that is one of the better facilities in the state. I've never seen another ID doc EVER since my diagnosis.

So, I recently changed from Atripla to Stribild and yesterday got the call from Joyce telling me that 'you have something we want...' With her usual chuckle.

It seems they realize that I have three new bottles of the old meds and that they would appreciate it is I dropped them off. She went on to explain that as dry as the doc can be, he does a LOT work with uninsured or under-insured and this three month supply could be someone's salvation. He does SO much work with people in this category that they are continually scrambling for programs to help, assistance and the occasional gold-mine of fresh meds!

I have a whole new respect for him and I'm dropping them off this afternoon. You never know someone......

Just as long as your doctor is careful not to let the free drugs end up in the hands of positive republicans I reckon its ok  .

That's an awesome story! Someone might be dull-as-dirt in most appearances but they're doing amazing things when no one's looking.

I have had this experience and I know that others have it off me .

The nurse and the Doc sound a good team and she has stayed with him for at least the 11 years . My own HIV doc who I have worked with since 1990 ( just had to sit back and take a breath or two  ) has a professional front , friendly and professional, but to keep on and and on doing that sort off work I think its likely you have to have a professional front.

I believe that anyone who works with pozzies and knows the history of AIDS in America, would not be compelled to do all they can to help those in need.  Many people, who give generously to a cause, are reluctant to announce it to the world.  It is called compassion and is a testament to the character of the people involved.

That's good to hear. Some people just have small lapses in coverage and a couple of weeks supply is all it takes to bridge the gap. The ubiquity of Atripla made it easier to connect interested parties since so many people had extra lying around and so many people needed it. As the Sustiva era fades, though, I wonder if anything else will take as much market share as Atripla did or will it be splintered among all the available options? Some of those pills are hard to find...

As an aside, pill insecurity sucks. I got down to my last one over the weekend recently and almost had to skip a day. Yikes. The pills have become an afterthought, and I only thought of filling the prescription after I noticed there was only one pill left on Saturday night.
