IMB warns about dangers of body-building supplements
« on: October 19, 2007, 03:21:43 pm »
FYI

Friday October 19 2007

The Irish Medicines Board is warning young people about the potential dangers involved in taking off-the-shelf body-building supplements.

The board is currently investigating 500 potential breaches of medicine laws by Irish retailers selling these prescription-only products.

It says many contain potentially life-threatening ingredients and should not be taken unless it is under the supervision of a doctor or pharmacist.

It is also warning retailers that they face hefty fines and up to 10 years in prison for selling such products illegally.

Sometimes I worry about pronouncements in the press regarding things that perhaps build a cloud over all things related to a topic.

Sure, one should be aware that substance you can take can cause issues.

But that does not mean that substances that a weight lifter might use, is at all a problem.

For example. Whey Protein, is a common body building substance. Or Glutamine. I use these regularly myself and would not hesitate to point to them if one needs a good protein supplement or needs the restorative power of Glutamine.

Its about very specific products and about the breaches of medicine laws by Irish retailers selling these prescription-only products.

L-Glutamine, whey proteins, multi-vitamins, minerals, nutrients, probiotics, antioxidant, ginseng, amino acids, etc are safe.
