Condoms and oil lubes
« on: June 16, 2007, 12:27:52 pm »
Hello,

This is a great forum. I really admire your common sense approach, it helps A LOT.

However, there's a nagging question on my mind. I had an encounter that involved penis head to penis head contact. Now, there was no cum and I'm fairly sure no precum involved but you know how it is, the 'what if' syndrome kicks in and there's a lot of nagging doubts. Which isn't helped by looking at another forum with mixed messages.

So if you're penis to penis and hypothetically precum gets onto the tip of your penis straight from the other person - is there a risk?

Thanks in advance.

That kind of contact will not put you at risk for HIV transmission. HIV is a fragile and not easily transmitted virus. It doesn't happen through such contact or mutual masturbation, frottage and various other sexual play of that sort.

Please read our lesson on Transmission if you haven't already done so. There's a like to it in the Welcome thread which opens this section and you get all of the basics there.

You don't have any cause for concern about HIV in relation to this recent incident.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

Thank you. I have read it but honestly, my mind is not working as logically as it should do these days! I realize that anxiety is my problem. I'm working on it.

Again, thank you for the reply and thank you for the work you do here. The logical responses here are so much more useful than the 'theoretical' or the 'negligible' that I see elsewhere.

Best of luck to you all.

Good. I'm glad that you found our exchange to be helpful. I understand there's a big difference between reading material and being responded to directly, especially when your mind is coming up with ill-founded scare scenarios. Happily you're ok this time.

Cheers,

Indeed. I would just like to ask one more thing though, and that's a similar question, and I think I already know the answer but docking foreskin to a circumcized penis with the presence of precum - also non-risk, right? I imagine so because it fits with the acts of frottage, etc., it's just as you say - these neurotic possibilities that play through my head.

Itsa,

No, docking is not a risk for HIV infection.

I'm sorry for bothering you all again, I don't want to seem overly neurotic and I know I am...but by tip of the penis, I meant specifically the urethra/hole area - so if you're rubbing the two heads of your penises, facing opposite each other and the precum from someone else goes directly onto that area -- it's still no risk, right? Because it's outside of the body, technically and HIV is transmitted inside?

ita,

We all know how a penis is constructed and we know what happens when the heads of two of them get together. We know that hiv transmission does NOT happen when penises collide and slide.

Seriously, we know what you're saying - and we're saying NO RISK.

Hello,

I hope you don't mind if I ask this question but I've read some conflicting information. I've only had intercourse once in my life, and a lube was used. I'm fairly sure it was just the regular kind, it wasn't a cream or anything like that, but then I read about oil lubes. Now, at thebody, a doctor said that the condom could fail and you wouldn't even know it. Whereas here, you say that if the condom fails due to the oil, it'd break and you'd be more than aware of it. Would just appreciate an answer to this.

If the condom fails you know it. There is no doubting it.

Thanks for the reply.

That's what I thought - but the other guy's answer freaked me out. Thanks for the reassurance!

Ita,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Please read the three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can become more informed about condoms and how to use them correctly.

A broken condom is obvious. You'd know.

Hi again. Please don't shout! :D I just had another brief question as I'm getting an STD test shortly and wanted to put my mind at rest. I've read that if you have one STD, like say Chlamydia, that it puts you at greater risk for HIV. Now, I'm assuming that they only mean 'greater risk' in the sense of unprotected intercourse, it doesn't mean that if you have one STD, you'd be susceptible from something normally without risk, i.e. a handjob? I just wanted a bit of reassurance, and won't bother you again.

ita,

A handjob, no matter what sort of spin or STI you want to put on it, is not a risk for hiv infection.

This will be my last question here, I promise. I fear that I am starting to use it as a crutch and taking advantage, it's just my mind playing tricks with me while I'm waiting.

As I said in my previous post, I recently engaged in mutual masturbation. Now I know, no risk, but without thinking at the end we kissed hands before leaving. I was concerned that any residue fluids could put me at risk - is that possible? I'm thinking no, because the change in environment (on his hand) would kill the virus especially as it only lasts a short time out of the body but would appreciate confirmation.

2). I also had a couple of nicks on my thumb where the skin peeled back and can see a tiny, needlhead amount of dry blood beneath it. Wouldn't change anything, would it?

ita,

I know you attempted to create a new account today, which is against our Terms of Membership which you agreed to when you became a member. This information is also contained within the Welcome Thread, which you should have read by now. So really, you have no excuse. I sent you the rejection email that you should have received by now. Try this again and you will be permanently banned from these forums.

You have not been at risk for hiv infection in anything you've brought to us today or any other day.

If you're having that difficult a time getting over this non-risk incident, I suggest you seek the assistance of a mental health care provider. We cannot help you with your sexual anxieties here.
