Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Oral Sex at the BJ Bar

I live in Bangkok and drunkenly ended up at a blow job bar almost 4 weeks ago.  This has been my only sexual encounter outside my marriage of 5 years. 

I have read through this forum and noted that you always say that insertive oral sex has almost no HIV risk.  But, since then, I have suffered from:

2 days after - diarrhea that has still not gone away

5 days after - possible chlamydia treated with one week of doxycycline
                    (those symptoms gone)

12 days after - a strange one week illness where I was nauseous most of the day and had many lab tests done all of which came out normal (those symptoms also gone now)

And, for the last 2 days - (phantom?) lymph node pain in my neck

I wasnt too worried at first, but now of course, here I am.

I received unprotected oral sex from a sex worker who I assume does this all day (I went late at night), she had braces (gum abrasions?), and she was not afraid to deep throat.  Is there a higher risk for me in this case?  If she herself was not HIV+, then what about one of her recent customers before me leaving something behind in her throat?

Can I go back to having sex with my wife or should I wait out the 2 more weeks and get the 6 week test?  As you know, the anxiety and guilt are tough to deal with.

You never had an eposure to HIV from getting your dick sucked.

Thanks for the quick reply, RapidRob.  I know you just said it, but, to clarify, it doesnt matter how many unprotected oral acts the SW performed that day previous to mine. I should stop worrying and move on, correct??

Getting a blowjob is one of the most common of sexual activities. In the entire history of the epidemic no guy has ever been confirmed to have been infected that way. You are not going to make history by becoming the first.

You have no cause for concern about HIV. None of your symptoms are in any way HIV specific. If they persist you should be discussing them with your doctor.

And yes, you can safely have sex with your wife without fearing you will infect her. You can't give her a virus you don't have.

Ok...no HIV exposure....thank you for the advice and for your work in this forum.  I will do my best to move on and deal with my anxiety.
