Digestion - Plumbing Problems
« on: August 26, 2007, 08:34:13 am »
I have been positive now for about 2 months - have yet to see a Dr. but I have a few questions about my digestion.

I have noticed that I am bloated a lot of the time, have lots of gas and slow digestion.  Is this normal?

I am eating a good diet, but don't understand why my digestion has changed significantly.  I have good bowel movements.

I am grateful for any suggestions.

Tramp,

Have you returned to the States yet? You mentioned when you first came here that you had a ticket... you really need to have some follow-up appointments with a doctor and have your diagnosis confirmed. If your diagnosis has been confirmed, you need to find out where your numbers are at - this is VERY important and you shouldn't put off doing this.

Many of us experience digestive disruption but to experience it so early in infection may be more down to nerves and emotional upset than the virus. This is something you should be discussing with a doctor.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

I agree with Ann that you should start getting medical advice ASAP. As far as digestive issues, they are a big part of this disease. It could be as simple as changing your diet, but there could be parasites involved as HIV weakens our defenses against nearly everything. I had amoebiasis of all things, because my body could not get rid of them as most people do. So please do go and get treated, as looking into your digestive problems with detail is best for your health. Your digestion is tied to everything so getting it well is paramount. I know your symptoms are minor but better prevention than long term damage.

Hugs,

CA
