I don't know about heading north to save money... A bottle of Atripla (30 tabs) costs $1,400 at my hospital pharmacy. I think this is comparable to US pricing. I have no idea about other meds, though.

Are you looking for HIV meds cheaper or other Rx meds?

If you do a search on here for "generic Atripla" or "viraday" several threads come up. I realize you may be looking for other meds but in a couple of the threads people mentioned online pharmacies where they get cheaper meds.

This link lists three online pharmacies:

This is also very informative as far as getting meds cheaper:

you can also check at the pharma website for your meds as many of them offer payment assistance programs (including copay assistance). Of course, dependent upon your income, some companies are helping to provide free meds. Or you can check with an area ASO to find out alternatives (because your income might allow ADAP funding, Wellvista.org, or other methods to obtain meds free or at little cost)

Your options to getting cheaper meds, without going out of country, greatly depend on what meds you are prescribed and what your income level is. ;)

tag,

Isentress is currently one of the most expensive hiv meds and it is not yet available as a generic from overseas. Some of the other meds are available at much lower costs as generics through companies like Cipla. There are several members here who buy their meds from Cipla.

While I am in no way endorsing the following website and have no idea how reliable they are as far as shipping etc goes, they do have an up-to-date list of what is and what isn't available as a generic. http://www.aids-drugs-online.com/antivirals.php

I advise sitting down with a case manager who can assess your situation and give your proper advice of options, some of which assuredly few people here know about.

I'll second that!

BTW, although I said I wasn't endorsing that particular website I linked you to, I have no doubts concerning the efficacy of Cipla's generic hiv meds. It's just the website I cannot speak for. The members here who use Cipla's products seem to be very happy with them and they are a viable alternative.

Good luck!

I agree. In fact, Cipla is the world's largest manufacturer of HIV drugs. And of course they make non-HIV drugs as well.

For the past many years we have bought our meds from this website.
http://supersavermeds.com/
They are reliable and cheapest we have found.
We presently don't need HIV meds but I believe they have them also.
For certain the viagra we buy is cheaper and works well.
Good luck.

I'm curious: do they sell without a prescription? On he site it says that if you don't have one then their physicial will supply one. Do you know if that costs extra?

Thanks!

Never had a perscription and there has never been an issue.
We bought Viagra from them for less than $2.00 a pill.
My bet is that someone with HIV will have a perscription for the meds.
The Viagra is just recreational fun.

Truvada is available generic if you check those sites mentioned above. Isentress, as Ann mentioned, is not generic yet. I wonder when Cipla will be able to make it?

It's also possible that your State's ADAP can cover the remaining cost of your co-pay after you subtract the co-pay assistance. Even though many ADAPs are experiencing cutbacks but you never know.

Also, if you just started using co-pay assistance I know that at least the one for Isentress and maybe the Truvada one too, will refund money you paid for the past month or more if you have the receipt and mail it to them. Depending on the cutoff, which I think is 60 days, so you should be able to mail them the receipts for the last two co-pays  you made before signing up for the program and they'll refund you the assistance amount. If you call the 800 numbers they can give you more info.

There are people on here taking generic Atripla (Viraday) from Cipla and they do fine. As long as it's made by Cipla it's fine, they're a reputable company.

I just wanted to second the suggestion of talking to your ASO and seeing whether you are eligible for ADAP (if you are in the US).  Even if you only get on an ADAP waiting list that will still get you access to meds, since there is currently a charity picking up the cost of meds for people on an ADAP waiting list.

There are currently about 4000 people on waiting lists for Ryan White/ADAP and many States are changing their requirements so that only people who make very little can qualify.

I'm not sure about the OP but I suspect that his income is over the limit.

eric
yes it is different in many states. currently 9 states have ADAP waiting lists.
for example if you applied for Ryan White ADAP funding today in Florida you would be #2397
on the waiting list and you would not get meds through ADAP.
http://nastad.org/Docs/Public/InFocus/20101210_ADAP%20Watch%20update%20-%2012.10.10.pdf

plus Florida is currently changing the eligbility requirements down to 300% FPL
here in Florida I just saw a poster at the local ADAP center and it says it's changing from 400% down to 300%.

I was trying to find out the actual federal poverty level and it appears to be $10,830 or $32,490 for 300% and a 1 person household.
that means that at re-evaluation time, many people who were using ADAP but making over 300% FPL (say $33,000 a year) will no longer have ADAP help and will have to start paying for their own meds, co-pays and premiums that ADAP was just paying for them over the last year.

an HIV+ person moving around the country these days really needs to pay attention to what services are and aren't offered where they are moving too. Someone using ADAP in PA probably could not afford to move to FL (or any of the other 8 states) and lose ADAP. However on the flip side, as things get tougher, we might see more pozzies moving and consoldiating into states that adequately fund ADAP

No, it does not when the fund doesn't have money.

As of yesterday, the ADAP (a portion of the Ryan White Care Act) programs in 10 states are NOT supplying meds to 5,154 people. Florida has 2,715 people on a list, who need meds and are financially eligible for help because they can't afford meds, who are NOT receiving meds through ADAP because the program in Florida (like those other 9 states) has NO money.
http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=36083.msg449148

(in just the last month Florida has added another 316 people to their wait list. One of them, in the reverse situation from you, might have been living in PA with ADAP supplied meds and now in FL finds himself without meds and on the wait list :'( )

This ADAP crisis happened once before in 2006 and 4 people died needing meds. So far in this crisis (which has been going on for over half a year already) 1 people has died. Since this financial problem with ADAP will continue into FY2012 (FY2011 doesn't even start until April 2011), sadly I won't be surprised to hear of more deaths in future months.

A friend of mine got hiv meds after being denied ADAP from a site called candrugstore.com. Got his Combivir and Viramune for a total of 199.00 bucks a month plus shipping. Brand would have cost him nearly 1500 bucks here in the U.S. Took him about 10days to get the meds. Made by a company called Cipla they are the ones that give hiv meds to Africa and according to Wikipedia they are the biggest manufacturer and dispenser of hiv meds in the world.......and are approved by both the World Health Organization and the FDA..... since our govt used Cipla's meds for our AID to Africa the FDA has to approve them.
