Title: Overdose on Truvada/ Kaletra?
Post by: David in Toronto on May 29, 2012, 12:50:40 pm
So on May 27, I completely forgot to take my medication for the whole day. I normally take my Truvada, 2 Kaletra, and a daily vitamin at 11am and 2 Kaletra, another daily vitamin and a Dapsone at 11pm. I never forget to take my meds since I have been on them, but Sunday was busy and hectic and I forgot. Monday morning at 7AM I realized that I had missed my doses, so I decided to take all my Sunday medication at once. Monday evening I took my entire Mondays dose. As soon as I did, I thought to my self "why did I just double dose 2 days worth of meds in one day.....not the smartest thing I've done". An hour or so later I started feeling dizzy and nauseous and not well at all. I decided to go to bed and sleep it off. I woke up this morning feeling okay but 20 minutes after I woke up I started vomiting and feeling nauseous and weak. It passed after an hour and I came in to work and started my day. 11 Am rolled around and I took my usual dose (Truvada, 2 Kaletra and a daily vitamin). Its now 12:45 and I feel sick. Just vomited yellow bitter bile and I feel nauseous. I guess my question is, is it possible to overdose on Truvada/ Kaletra? Should I go to the hospital or doctor? I'm a typical guy and I hate going to the hospital or doctor and usually wait to see if it is necessary to go, almost to the point of death (but that's another story). Any help/ info/ experiences would be much appreciated.

So I had to leave work as the nausea and vomiting got worse. Got home and was real dizzy and had trouble breathing. Laid down for a while. Sweating like crazy and still feel very ill. Have this real bad taste in my mouth that's been there since this morning and no matter how many time I brush my teeth or gargle with mouth wash it wont go away. Starting to think I should visit St. Michael's, which is the hospital which I go to for positive care...

It would be a good idea to call your doctor's office and tell them what happened and ask about how and when best to restart the various doses.

I hope you feel better soon.

Sound advice. I am still getting used having a doctor. I never did have a family doctor nor did i go to one if i got sick or injured, unless it was serious. Thank you

I took a nap and had a bite to eat and am feeling much better now.

Wow, i will never make that mistake again.

You know, I saw this line and just had to respond to your prior post.  One of the hardest things to do, especially if you are "a typical guy" is to recalibrate your need to have more medical care and interactions as you learn to live with the virus.

I struggle with this all the time, but at least at first you might want to get in the habit of seeing the doctor more often.  Then you can be upfront and tell him/her that you are trying to recalibrate and ask if it was a good idea to come in or not.

But just try it -- recalibrate.

Best to you
