Remarkably Pleased With Obama
« on: December 24, 2010, 03:00:29 am »
Hello, Everyone!

While I agree with mecch, there are times when he gets it right, and the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" is absolutely one of them.

This is the BEST (not to mention historic), Christmas present ever.  The old saying, "better late than never" definitely applies here, and to several other important GLBT laws that should have been repealed LONG ago, such as "DOMA," as well as the enactment of a FEDERAL law granting the partners of civil unions (or those married in certain states where it is legal), EQUAL recognition and protection of their rights in not SOME, but in EVERY state in these "United States" of America.  One step at a time...

While watching, I was saying to myself, "This is terrific, but what about an apology to those already discharged under DADT?"  To my relief, not only did the President "talk the talk" by apologizing in words, he "walked the walk" in action as well - on behalf of all who were discharged under DADT, he offered the opportunity for all of them to re-enlist once this law takes effect.  Which is NOW!!!

"HOO-RAH!!!"
