Rapid HIv test

Good morning and blessings to you all.

Hope you could give me an insight in what has me scared and thinking I might have been infected.

During a trip with a group of peoplo, somw whom I did not know from before, there was one guy that apparently had problems with drugs and alcoho, he did look a bit messy. Thing is we shared the same water bottle a copule of times and drank from the same glass some other times.

here starts my headache, 5 weeks after this trip I came down with a sore throat (had not suffered from sore throat for a couple of years) and a fever, both of them lasting about 3 days. For one day I felt very weak and slept most part of the day.

When I looke dthrough the pictures of the trip I noticed he had on his arm what seemed to be karposi Sarcoma.

Could this be related to HIV ars, my symptoms and timeline I mean.

Shared same water bottle, drinking glass and couple of cigarretes.

Came donw with sore throat and fever 5 weeks post the trip, it all lasted 3 days, felt very waek one of those days.

I would appreciate any insight.

No you had no risk for HIV transmission, firstly HIV can effect anyone. You can not tell from the way someone looks or what they have done in the past or currently do if they are infected of not. HIV can affect anyone regardless of Class, Wealth, Social standing, Sexual orientation, Race, Ethnicity, Gender or Age. HIV is simply a virus that affects all walks of life, nothing more than that.

Now HIV isn’t transmitted by hugging, shaking hands, sharing toilets, sharing dishes, kissing, through saliva, tears, or sweat.

HIV does not remain infectouise outside the human body, once hiv finds itself exposed outside the body, small changes in temperature, pH / moisture levels all damage the receptors needed to infect you thus render it unable to infect you. 

Biologically for transmission to even in theory to occur 4 conditions must all be met HIV needs to be present for it to be a risk and than to transmit it needs an effective route, in sufficient amounts and it must also reach cells which are susceptible to infection.

Nothing you mentioned meets all the conditions needed, the only risks you have as an adult as they also meet the 4 conditions are:

- Unprotected sex
- Sharing drug rigs/syringes
- Blood transfusions (Highly rare in western world locations) 

So unless you did one of the above 3 things above its safe to move on with your life.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

Just for general purpose, can HJIV ars only last 3 dyas?

Some have no symptoms at all, but this means nothing as far as you're concerned.

I was wondering about the accuracy of HIV rapid tests. 4 months after sex with a Sex worker I had a rapid hiv test taken to me to know my HIV status and if had the risk of  been infected with HIV. The result of the rapid HIV test was negative, non reactive.

I have always been afraid of HIV, and somtime time later I worry about infection. Can a Negative Hiv result in a rapid test 4 months after exposure be conclusive or not?

If you had unprotected intercourse it was a risk, although any approved HIV test at 3 months+ post potential exposure is conclusive. Since you tested outside the window period and, the result was negative it means you did not acquire HIV from the encounter you are concerned about. 

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid HIV infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions. Consider starting PrEP as an additional layer of HIV protection going forward

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as safe in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for acquiring far easier to transmit STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.
