Florida Ryan White
« on: November 05, 2011, 03:12:34 am »
I live in Ft Lauderdale and i have been receive my medical/dental care thru Ryan White (non ADAP coverage of Ryan White) since 2002. ADAP since 2001. You have to enroll separately....at two separate places for ADAP and Ryan White for medical/dental/other health related coverage. This thread is not about ADAP prescription coverage. It's regarding the medical portion of Ryan White.

I go to a clinic called Care Resource. My doctor there also gives me referrals thru Ryan White to see an outside psychiatrst. Ryan White pays for my visits. Each referral they fax over to the psychiatrist and i'm normally given an allowance of 2-3 visits per referral...... then when the visits run out, Care Resource faxes over a new referral each time.

I normally have them fax over a new renewal after my visits have run out ...and like a week before my next psychicatrist appointment. But something odd happened to me over the phone today when I called over to Care Resource and asked them to fax over a new referral. They told me that now I have to wait til the day before my psychiatrist appointment (at the last minute) for them to fax over a new referral to my psychiatrist b/c they say even though my Ryan White doesnt expire until February....... my coverage.....and i quote... "can expire at anytime". What? What?? So basically they ask me to wait the day before my appointment just to they can be sure my Ryan White is still good.

Really confused by all this i told them they can look into the computer and see when my Ryan White expires plus everyone has their Ryan White paperwork in their medical records folder that says when it expires. The woman at Care Resource told me that date didnt matter. She was like "you could have just went in two days ago and got your Ryan White renewed for another year .....but it can expire anytime before that even though they have given you a date it actually expires". This makes no sense to me at all. So i thought i was dealing with someone that didnt know what they were talking about so I called back and got to speak with someone else and basically got the same story.

Ok anyone here on the boards in Florida ever heard of this? Seems like they are just being lazy over at Care Resource and dont want to deal with my referrals until the last minute. And this crap about my Ryan White can expire at anytime and it doesnt matter when u have had it renewed what is that all about?? If it can expire at anytime what is the point of the eligibility worker giving you paperwork with an expiration date on it?? Ryan White has always been good for 1yr here.

I'm going to call the Broward County Health Dept centralized Ryan White intake people on Monday and tell them what is going on with this over at Care Resource and see if what Care Resource is telling me is true or not.
