ADAP and Obamacare impact on hiv prescription

Hello there,
I moved to US 7 months back. As I was taking medication for 5 years. I got my medication from ADAP. I don’t know if I will get anything covered like primary health care or some other normal proscription for normal sickness. So, I thought of buying Obamacare health care marketplace health insurance. But what I doubted is that if it makes me to buy my hiv prescription that is given free by ADAP on low income basis.I am not in position to copay or contribute for the time being. My concern is; if getting this health insurance will make any impact with my ADAP free medication??? I am really worried on this. Please suggest me something what shall I do? Your suggestion is appreciated.

Talk to an ADAP case manager in your state about this issue. State ADAP programs can be slightly different in each state. In some states, ADAP will pay the premium for an ACA plan, enabling eligible clients (based on income level) to still receive meds while also providing coverage for other health care issues.

Thank you brother leatherman. I am new in this country, currently living in northern Virginia. And starting everything from the scratch. I am trying to figure out how this Healthcare system works. This seems so tricky and conniving sometimes. hopefully things will be little clear gradually.

ah yes. our healthcare system.... well, it certainly is a mess. Luckily people living with HIV have better access to healthcare than most people through the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program.

so not knowing what city you're near, nor knowing much about the Virginia system (I'm just a PLWH advocate volunteering with both North and South Carolina. I barely understand the systems here much less in another state. LOL), I can only offer a few more generic suggestions:

This link from poz.com might help you locate a provider (doctor) near you if you don't already have one. Many clinics that deal with HIV care also have case managers that know the system and could help guide you. Often there's a "Navigator" that handles figuring out the whole ACA thing. If you already have a doctor, check there at the office. If they don't provide services dealing with ADAP or the ACA, they should be able to direct to an agency that can.
