Genvoya and Thailand
« on: March 04, 2019, 08:06:00 pm »
Hi I just got my HIV treatment (first time) and the doctor thinks that Genvoya is what I need to start with (or try). I live in NYC.

Since I want to live in Thailand (I prefer Asia) I wonder what would you suggest if there is no generic version for Genvoya (yet) and no one knows when it's gonna be made. Of course I could ask my doctor to get the older drug (like Atripla) but I don't think it's healthier than Genvoya.

I don't want to wait till Genvoya appears in Thailand so what would you recommend?

P.S. I can't afford $1500 for a brand Genvoya monthly.

Below is a list of the drugs available from the Bangkok Red Cross (It is over a year old so other drugs may have been added)

I take a two pill regimen of Truvada & Edurant that is identical to Complera and ends up costing less than $30 month... Going on 5 years ;-)...

If anyone has a link or more recent Red Cross drug list please post it...

Just went online Thai Red Cross AIDS Research http://en.trcarc.org/Homepage/?page_id=14 dialed number listed there (Tel. (+66) 2-251-6711-5) and it says "the number is not in service".

On FB there is no Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Center just The Thai Red Cross Society - are they the same?

I don't know what's going on...

Wrong. Beware of rumors and repeating them. I was there Monday. If anything it's become a bigger operation and much more efficient.

The Thai Red Cross is still very much open. If you do come to Bangkok you can even join a support group. If you need more information about being POZ in BKK you can message to sonowwhat.asia@gmail.com

I live in Thailand and am a Thai Red Cross user: not sure Genvoya is now available, anyways its cousin Stribild is (which is basically the same drug except it contains the previous version of the Tenofovir component). If I'm not wrong (other Red Cross users may correct me), they price for a 30 pills bottle of Stribild is in the range of 5,500 THB, about 180 USD.

Hi Glad,

thanks for the news! With “here” you mean at TRCARC? Do you know the price per bottle?

Thanks

I also wonder why this kind of information has to be kept private.
So, to help everyone I emailed someone at Anonymous this morning and they answered just now:
“Genvoya is available now, 2580 Thai baht”.

Not a secret but as it has only recently become available I didn't have time to find the exact answer but now we have it. I will post it online this week. Also wanted to see how much it was at a second hospital for comparison but again not enough time.

It is confirmed. It is original from GILEAD. I am not aware of any generic version of  GENVOYA being available.

Yeah right...I don't post until I know and can guarantee it. In this one thread we have...'the Red Cross is closed'...'generic GENVOYA'...'a price of 12,000 baht'...amongst others...so right when I know I post.
Not many people are taking it. I haven't met anyone actually. I got my first bottles free so had no idea of the price.  It has been available since late January at the Thai Red Cross. I knew it was somewhere around 3,000 baht. There are doctors in Bangkok that do not know it is even available yet. I will put it on the list of drugs this week. And anyone who really needs to know can call them and find out so it's hardly a secret.

Me too I'm pleasantly surprised by the price, especially considering Stribild was sold at 5500 bath/bottle at TRCARC, at least until a few months ago.

Hello Turkey,

Not sure if genvoya (original or generic) is available in Thailand. But one way is to switch to a med that is available in generic which is cheaper in Thailand. Of course, this change would need from a Dr.

Same time, you can look at the list & cost in flight ticket cost + 12 months med cost + small amount of travelling cost. this is like doing a yearly cost. Then you can see if this is within your reach of spending ($$$ per year)

This could be a solution if you are having $$ issue. Hope this suggestion helps. Thanks

I also wonder why this kind of information has to be kept private.
So, to help everyone I emailed someone at Anonymous this morning and they answered just now:
“Genvoya is available now, 2580 Thai baht”.

is genvoya, realy available for that price? is it original or generic?

Hi Turkey,

Suggest that you start all over again & STICK to a single post so that we can help to advise you as much as possible. you have been "jumping" from one type of question to another which may be confusing to us.

We understand that $$ is an issue. We know that you are currently on GENVOYA.
You are asking about living in Thailand. You ask if Genvoya is original or not (gilead)
Then you also want to know if "whsts teevir and is it,as good as,genvoya"

First, i think you need to understand the different between generic & "original"
Then you need to know also how if you like to change meds YOU NEED TO do it with/from a DR side (we CANNOT advise you to change)

Why not you start a new post & stick to that single post & we will advise as much as possible. BUT.. but, we will not be able to be your DR and reply like one. Thanks

Hi Turkey,

Let’s for now not discuss about changing med.
is USD 85-90 per month within your reach/budget?
(Assume that you would want to buy HIV medication from Thailand)

Yes, genvoya is 150+150+200+10. Tks

Hi Turkey,

You are free to post reply at any post but as you can see it can be “hard to follow”.

Example. If you drive 4 cars into a shopping mall and parked those cars in different parking bays plus different level/floors, it will be difficult to find them if u need to look for your cars.

That’s the only reason I suggest to start a “New post/topic” again and just continue to “chat” on that single “topic”.

Even if we copy a “link” of other posting/topic, you still ask on same post that you have started. (Just 1 car for all enquiry) and not change to that link for enquiry.

Just a suggestion only and not for me to say that you cannot post at other topic. Thanks

On your screen you see on the far left the forummembers name.
Below that you see 2 icons, click on the one to the right...this allows you to send a private message to that person

Strange ; you are supposed to be able to send PM's after 3 postings on the forum.
I see that you already posted 23 times.

Perhaps you should open a new topic: "unable to send PM's" , maybe the moderators will pick it up and resolve the problem.
Goodluck
