Hello

I am on PEP and took a truvada pill with a delay of 10 hours on my regular schedule on day 22. I didn't take the isentress pill in the morning on the same day.

How does it affect the efficiency of the treatment ?

I am afraid that the concentration of truvada in my body was low enough to enable the virus to duplicate.

Thank you for your answer.

Hi

The meds are very forgiving nowadays, so don't stress.

That said don't make it a habit so keep taking the rest of the course as prescribed and test 6 & 13 weeks after completing the PEP.

Thank you Jim for your answer.

I completed the PEP treatment yesterday. Day 22 was the only day I took truvada pill with a 11 hr delay. During the treatment, I tool truvada on my regular schedule +/- 2 hours.

I was so scared I would have screwed the treatment... Apparently, it's in my head. I don't know why I try to persuade me that it was screwed up. I am so stupid. I should move on and wait 6 weeks to get tested.

Just felt it would help me writing down this stuff.

Thanks again Jim.

Its okay, your not stupid. You just freaked out for a moment, that happens to the best of us from time to time. I am sure you will be fine when you do test and in the meantime just focus on living your life.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, every time, no exceptions.

Keep in mind that some sexual practices which may be described as ‘safe’ in terms of HIV transmission might still pose a risk for transmission of other STI's, so please do get fully tested regularly and at least yearly for all STI's including but not limited to HIV and test more frequently if unprotected intercourse occurs

Also note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms and the only way of knowing is by testing.

More information on HIV Basics, PEP, TaSP and Transmission can be found through the links in my signature to our POZ pages, this includes information on HIV Testing

Kind regards

Jim

Hi Jim,

So I did the test at 8 weeks which came back negative. I am waiting for the results of the test at 16 weeks. I know it is a little bit different from the 6 weeks + 13 weeks but my provider wants to do the tests this way.

I am now considering PrEP as the PEP I mentioned in the previous messages was the third I took in a bit more than 2 years due to condom breaks.

I am dating a guy - first one for a long time - and I freak out a lot. I inspect my mouth carefully before going on a date, I check my fingers before doing some foreplay like fingering. I have been very open and shared with him what happened in the last 2 years. He understands and we will go at my own pace, which is great.

So French kissing or deep kissing is not a HIV risk, right? Even if there are cuts or burns in the mouth (like after eating hot food)? Even if I brush my teeth a bit before kissing him?

And fingering is not a risk either, correct? Even with scratches and cuts on the finger? Even if the cut is new (made during the day), still reddish with the sides open?

I am just asking confirmation as I lost my self-confidence after the third PEP I took.

Thank you for your answer.

Tom

Kissing is not a risk and nobody has ever been infected with HIV from fingering. You are I think projecting your fears from the last few months onto situations that are simply not a concern. Relax already.

PrEP is a great idea as an additional layer of protection, talk to your health care provider when you have decided so they can assist you.

Glad too hear the result was negative and it is conclusive, you don't have HIV from the incident you were concerned about. There are plenty of people holding onto outdated testing times, test again for peace of mind but the result from this incident is simply not going to change.
