Kish,

If the condom was hanging out of her at all, then it slipped off when you withdrew. If it was up inside and you had to search for it, then you may have been inside unprotected.

If it was hanging out, then you had no risk. If it had to be dug out, then you had a slight risk and should test in three months time.

You're supposed to hang on to the condom when you withdraw. Please read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you know how to use them properly.

Kish,

"Am I dead?" Don't be so melodramatic. It doesn't wash here. I've been hiv positive for eleven years and I'm certainly not dead.

Even if you were unprotected for a time, your chances of testing negative are excellent. Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and more so from a woman to a man. I've yet to see the insertive partner (that's you) test positive following a condom break or slip. I do not expect you to be the first.

And what do you mean it was "probably" in her? Either it was or it wasn't. You were there, you should know. If it was at all visible on the outside, you weren't at risk.

Test at the three month point if you're worried, but don't stress out. You're most likely to test negative.

kish,

You don't have to stop having intercourse, but you should be using a condom. You should be using a condom anyway.

And of course I'm serious that you have an excellent chance of testing negative. My (ex) partner and I were together for a year and a half, not using condoms, before I discovered my positive hiv status. He remained hiv negative. We were together a total of nearly nine years and he was hiv negative when we split up. We used condoms after my diagnosis. They really do work.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

I fully expect you to test hiv negative.
