new at http://aids-write.org

take a look at icpoz.three: the awo-hosted september issue of international carnival of pozitivities and special report on fourteen bloggers in toronto. icpoz is a guest-hosted monthly link-anthology of timely, artful and thoughtful contributions to the aids/hiv blogosphere.

moffie, from aidsmeds, contributed a post to this month’s issue. the piece is titled pcp. read the paragraph below carefully. if it’s never happened to you, imagine it. to me, it recalls my aids-releated dementia, which many hivers have recovered from. . . . if you don’t think that’s news, you’re mistaken. moffie writes in his march 1, 2006 post called tim’s hiv blog:

one day, while going to the market about a mile away from our home; i came to a stop sign, and completely blanked out. . . .

icpoz.three’s award for the single most useful sentence to rise above all the verbiage in toronto: “stigma makes it easier for politicians to stand in the way of saving lives.” — melinda gates at the opening ceremonies. write it down on the back of a grocery receipt and mini-banner it across your fridge. talk into the bullhorn at a rally about it. ask the vacant, smiling politicians in their high-backed cushy leather chairs: “melinda gates says this. do you agree?” find out who’s awake.

blogger three:
sean barry
email at: sean@champnetwork.org
sample post:  “hrw: drive for testing must respect rights”

“who and unaids should clearly state that hiv testing programs must be voluntary and linked to counseling and treatment,” said [un secretary] amon. “it is critical that we expand access to hiv testing. but testing programs will fail if they do not also provide people protection from stigma, discrimination and abuse.”

blogger nine: david munar
email at: dmunar@aidschicago.org
sample post: toronto day 2: congresswoman waters calls for mandated prisoner testing

saying it was time to “take the gloves off,” congresswoman maxine waters (d-ca) [my district — rk] said today she plans to support mandated hiv testing policies for inmates entering and existing correctional facilities.

“i’m concerned about people dying. we’re not taking new actions to deal with this problem. we talk about stigma but we’re not doing anything differently. i’m tired of going to these conferences,” she said.

waters made her remarks as part of a press conference hosted by the black aids institute to launch its “declaration of commitment,” a new campaign designed to mobilize african-american community leaders in efforts to reverse the escalation of cases among black americans by 2011. waters said her position on mandated prisoner testing is part of a renewed belief that “everyone needs to take responsibility.”
