Severe Symptoms

I am a male in my late 30's.   Never had any medical problems ever.  I rarely go to the doctors as there is never a need.  I am always careful but I had one foolish drunken incident and had unprotected vaginal intercourse 21 weeks ago.

p.s. Before mentioning symptoms, note that I am never sick.  I never have any health issues.  I am a avid runner and athlete.  Also I never had headaches in my life.  Just an occasional mild hangover.  I haven't been to the doc's in 10 years as there is never a need.

Here were my symptoms:   

Week 6 (after exposure) :  first symptoms - mild headaches that never went away morning to night.   Metallic taste in my mouth that never went away.  Very blood shot eyes
Week 7 - Headaches very very severe.  Swollen lymphnodes and glands
Week  8 - Severe headaches,  starting to get sore throat (feels like a piece of meat stuck in my throat)
Weeks 9 -13  - Headaches / bad sore throat / complete fatigue to the point I couldn't get out of bed.   Nausea, pain and tingling in my arms and legs.  Arms and legs feel like they weigh 50 pounds each.
Stomach Pains and muscle spasms in my arms that I can actually see.    Litterally zero energy complete fatigue.  Bouts of severe chest pains.

Where I am at today at 21 weeks:

Still have tingling/ numbness, heaviness in my forearms and legs. Swollen lymphnodes.  Headaches,  but they go on and off.
Intense Nausea about 2-3 times a day.   Stomach pains, and still alot of fatigue.  Still have severely bloodshot eyes (I have taken drops and meds from eye doc but nothing helps)

I had an Elisa test at 10 weeks.  Then had an HIV-1 DNA qualitative PCR at 15 weeks (later learning that this is not a good test for adults)  it came back negative (not detected) .  My last test was an Elisa at 17 weeks that was negative.

I have been to 3 doctor's.  I have had every bloodtest known to man.  ( all negative)  I have had a Cat scan, MRI, spinal tap, you name it I've had it.  Everything has been ruled out. I thought it might be hypothyroid but that was ruled out as well.  I can't figure out why I was and still am very sick.  I am CONVINCED I have HIV.   I am going to wait for my 6 month test.    I am always healthy and have been sick for 15 weeks.   I take walks but have a hard time running or playing sports due to fatigue and my legs feeling so heavy and numb. 

Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?    My symptoms are very real.  I am a very upbeat person but this illness has brought me down.

Has anyone tested negative at 3 months and positive later on?

I am desperate for help and answers.

You are wasting time and resources being tested past the 3 month period. You are conclusively negative.

Simply because none of your non-HIV tests and your doctors haven't come up with an explanation does not by default invalidate your HIV test results.

You are HIV negative. Period. End of story.

Whatever is causing your symptoms  is not HIV. REally. So you may have to see another doctor to get to the bottom of what's going on.

It's not HIV. Period.

An interresting thing  to observe at this board is that individuals tend to believe their negative tests for other medical conditions, but doubt the HIV ELISA tests despite the fact, that the HIV ELISA test is one of the most accurate in medicine.

You may not want to hear it, but your symptoms are shouting stress to me.

We see this very often on this board. Stress can severely depress your health (no, not to the level where you can't produce antibodies).

With all the tests under your belt, one thing is certain; HIV is not your problem. One HIV antibody test at 3 months would have been enough.

And by the way: we had legions of people with symptoms like yours with  negative  results in the end. Just like yours!!
