Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Oral Sex and HIV (Development of Bleeding Gums)

Hello Team,

First let me tell you that you all are doing a great thing by helping people with information around HIV.

I am Gay and have had oral sex with a few random people where I took the male sex organ in my mouth. I have never allowed anyone to cum inside me, but I am pretty sure sure that some amount of pre-cum would have surely entered my body. Since I am unsure about the HIV status of my partners, I am worried about HIV. Two weeks after my last encounter, I have developed bleeding gums which has not healed completely in the past 2.5 months inspite of taking Vitamin C tablets (although the amount of bleeding has reduced drastically and it bleeds only occasionally now).

I have not had oral sex after I noticed my bleeding gums. Am I at a risk of HIV ?
Please help me with this. Apart from bleeding gums, I seem to be perfect with no other major ailment.

You're worrying needlessly. Your saliva contains over a dozen different proteins and enzymes that damage hiv and render it unable to infect.

I suggest you see a doctor about your bleeding gums. It's nothing to do with hiv.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts
