Title: Scared, I put myself at risk.
Post by: Trooper75 on March 18, 2007, 08:31:16 am
Hi, I've been really struggling regarding a sexual encounter I had 4 weeks ago.  I'm hoping for your opinions on whether I should be worried.

I met another guy for sex.  He stated he had tested negative for HIV in December.  What has me worried is he started rubbing his uncovered penis between my butt, and was putting pressure against my anus with the head of his penis.  However, there was no penetration, but he did have precum.  He then put on a condom and penetrated me and had some rough sex.  When I went to clean up there was some blood, I'm relatively inexperienced.

Now I'm scared that some precum may have been able to infect me when he was putting pressure on my anus, or may still have been there during sex and been able to get in from the subsequent tearing.  I'm scaring myself to death from this.  Do I have reason to worry?

Thank you for your responses.  What you do here is a godsend for worried people.

Joe

Trooper, there is a world of difference between rubbing and penetration. Even with precum involved, anal rubbing is not a risk for transmission.

Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission. The fact that some bleeding took place would not have affected the protection the condom gave you. In fact the possibility of anal bleeding during intercourse is exactly one of the reasons for using condoms.

As long as you use condoms consistently for intercourse everytime whether you are the receptive or the penerating partner you will be ok as far as HIV is concerned.

I don't see any cause for further worry or testing as far as HIV is concerned in relation to this incident.

Cheers,

Thanks Andy,  your reassurance is appreciated.  It helps to hear this from others more experienced than myself.
