Like the info link provided by veritas, kitchen oregano for cooking is NOT the same as the supplemental oregano oil sold in health food stores for treating wounds and used as anti-viral, bacterial...etc.

I bought a dozen bottles of pure oregano oil a year back and only used 3 so far, cos you must dilute it with a base oil. A little goes a long way. The pure oil is too strong and will burn skin undiluted. Recommended ratio: 1:3 Oregano:Base Oil. I use Virgin Coconut Oil as my base oil.

Has proven effective in treating an itchy throat from an onset of flu. Mix 6 drops of diluted Oregano oil in 3 tablespoon of drinking water and used as a throat gargle before swallowing slow to feel the liquid drench/coat the itchy throat. For wounds, use a drop of the diluted oil on the wound to disinfect.

Australia has their equivalent in Tea Tree oil. It's hard to debate which is better as both are pretty powerful and effective holistic remedies.
