Just need to say something

Hi!

I´ve been recently diagnosed with HIV after a positive test for syphillis and an after STD exam that confirmed HIV 1 positive ( westernblot).

My CD4 count is 627 and a viral load of 51,000 so my doc said not to start a treatment right now and make new tests in 3 months to check my progression ( is it a good recommendation?)

I´m a thirtysomething gay dude so my sex life is doomed...i feel such a freak...

That is pretty standard and you aren't doomed I've had HIV 29 years and still kicking.

Sorry you got his bug.  :(
You're sex life isn't doomed. Lots of folks have that fear after diagnosis. You'll see, your future and everything is what you make of it, including your sex life.
As for starting now, or starting later, the meds, your doc is following pretty standard protocol.
You can start talking, asking, reading about these issues and decide yourself if you want to start soon, or on down the road.  Each choice has plusses and minuses.

Welcome to the forums Mark. I know you probably never thought you would be here but s**t happens. glad you found us.

It's not the end of the world but I understand how you must be feeling. Just try to be easy on yourself and know for sure that your sex life is not doomed. I've been Poz for 31+ years and met my current hubby (he is negative) 19 years ago.

Sure, there are adjustments along the way but don't give in to despair and fear.  :)

Opinions about when to start meds has been changing and I wouldn't worry too much about it for now. Just give yourself time to learn about things at a reasonable pace for you.

My VL was 53,000 and CD4 was 230 when I first started meds.  My partner on the other hand had CD4 in the 700's  At least where I live they are recommending to start meds no mater what your CD4 count is.  Your body is still going to be working in overdrive trying to fight this virus.  Why take the chance of letting it  destroy your immune system?
