Need you help for HIV medications
« on: May 12, 2018, 12:09:41 pm »
Dear Everybody,

I'm new on this forum and I'm glad I found it :)

I think it's a great place to ask for help and hope someone will help me.

I came from Serbia, Belgrade, on HIV medications for 6 years, none detected. As you may know, it is a hard life for a gay person to live in Balkans. I have a boyfriend from Montenegro who is HIV negative and we are 5 years in a happy relationship but we can not be ourselves, cant be married and etc.

I received tourist visa for the USA and will come to NY to visit my friend. I have a lot of good graphics and web design experience and will try to find a job to get a working visa.

So I'm a bit scared, till I don't find a job I can be without medication, and I'm afraid :( but I'm willing to put everything at risk to be happy and someday live with my partner as it should be.

In Serbia, we use first generations of meds, so I think if I will someday USA citizen for a long term it will be better for my health.

So I'm asking as a friend, will I'm able to get meds when I'm waiting for a job and get health insurance and don't be afraid to get deported? :(

Sorry for my bad English, thank you all

Do not stop taking your medication.

States have ADAP programs.  If you are legally in the United States, you should be able to get assistance.  You will need to contact an ASO  Aids Service Organization in the area you go to.  That said, it often takes up to 3 months to get everything sorted to get help with meds.  You should bring at least a 3 month supply with you.

In some states the ADAP program will provide medicine to undocumented aliens.  California does I believe.  (Blue states, Democrats vs Republican States are better and avoid the south).  Which state will you be in, perhaps there is someone on the forum from that state.

Also what medicines are you currently on?

Drug companies have patient assistance programs also and the ASO  (AIDS Service Organizations) should be able to help you with that.

Perhaps you can order online from one of the many Indian Pharmacies, many do.  Or make a detour to Bangkok or India on the way to the US to purchase meds.
