Title: Oraquick Accuracy
Post by: patjjjj on March 20, 2013, 03:17:22 pm
I had a risky sexual encounter in Bangkok. It was over 6 months back. Once I came back to the US i tested for all STD's and I had an UTI (ecoli). This was 2 weeks after encounter and was given CIPRO. In about a month I had neck pain, fatigue, chills, blood in my stools, red pin like dots on my chest, my glands in my armpit look like they are swollen but it could also be due the fact that I gained some weight, hair loss, mouth ulcers, skin tags, occasional head ache random pain in leg and arms.

In about 3 months I started having diarrhea everyday, blood in nose, spiting out blood, mouth ulcers, stomach pain and a lot more.

Around 5 month mark I tested with the oraquick advance (mouth swab) and I tested negative. I repeated the test three more times, the last one being at a little over 6 months. The symptoms I still have are diarrhea, occasional tongue ulcers, white bumps on the side of the tongue, blocked ears, nose bleed and spitting blood, random pain in neck, peripheral neuropathy.

Is the oraquick test accurate and I'm definitely HIV -'ve or do I have to follow up with the blood test. All four orquick was the advance HIV 1/2 oral swab test. Do these symptoms suggest any other std?

The test you took is an accurate test . You have also tested way beyond the window period so you are conclusively HIV negative .

I would see a doctor about your symptoms because they have nothing to do with HIV .

Thanks Jeff. That is reassuring. Can I put all of this behind me and move on. HIV should not be my concern right? Have you ever heard of orasure test failing?

I will definitely go to a doctor and have this checked out. I have this feeling that a lot of these symptoms can be related to anxiety. I wanted to check with the experts here whether HIV should still be my concern?

I sincerely believe you to be HIV negative and that you should put your mind at ease where HIV is concerned . If your symptoms persist , then see a doctor because they are NOT HIV related symptoms .
