I wonder if it would be inappropriate, to bring a shoe box with me tomorrow, and ask the doctor to please return any rings, bracelets, or any other jewelry,  that he may come across, during the procedure !   ;D

Hey Ray,

Your getting in one end, I the other. I have my endoscopy tomorrow morning.

I fully expect they will find nothing, but one must humor one's doctor.

No golightly for me this time. But I did have to go off the pain meds (NSAIDS) which I take daily to reduce the pain levels.

None since Thursday. I really felt it yesterday and today.

Hope all comes out well for you tomorrow, jewelry and all!

HUGS,

Mark

The colonoscopy exam went great !     One polyp was removed, and internal Hemorrroids were noted. The doctor said everything looked good, and he was pleased how well I followed directions on the prep. The colon was clean !  :)

I also got to watch this being done on the monitor.  So that was kind of interesting. I didn't go asleep, and watched from the beginning to end. The procedure lasted about 40 minutes.

I was always aware of the Hemorroids, But they have not been an issue now for over ten years, and the doctor suggested, that I leave these alone, that they are not a problem.

Last week on Wednesday, I had a Dermatology appointment.  I had another Squamous cell removed.  ( At least that's what the doctor believed it was).  So a chunk was cut out on my left arm again.

I will know more when the biopsy results come in.

The Dermatologist also prescribed two medications for me.

The first photo is of "FLUOROURACIL 5% CREAM

This is to be applied every day, to the tops of my hands and the top of the left forearm. This will treat for pre-cancers, and will be used for 4 weeks. I understand this cream can make your hands and arms look like crap, as the medication does it's job. May cause a sunburned look, along with possible blistering and peeling.

This second photo is of "TRIAMCINOLONE ACETONIDE 0.1 % CREAM

This is to be applied to the affected areas, twice a day, to hands and forearms, in case that first medication causes too much burning and/or irritation. This will help to calm that possible reaction.

Hey Nick,....Good luck with your upcoming exam !!!

Dermatology just called me.    It was a squamous cell that was removed, on Wednesday. No further action needs to be taken at this point, all of it was removed.

The endoscopy went fine. They found no evidence of ulcers, which was suspected, nor any scarring or damage to the esophagus.

So, that was good news.

All that was found was a polyp in my stomach. I didn't know you could get polyps in your stomach, but apparently, you can.

So, the excised it. I go back on the 16th to find out what the biopsy shows. I am not overly concerned about it.

Because of the polyp, I couldn't go back on my pain meds right away. I can't start again until Thursday.

I don't like being without them, but what's to do?

HUGS,

Mark

Thanks all,  I'm going to wait a couple of weeks until this crater ( from the Biopsy) heals completely on my left arm.  Then I will start on the FLUOROURACIL 5% CREAM. Hopefully the stuff will work with the least visual unsightliness . This skin crap is a bugger !

Mark,,  Glad to hear your endoscopy went well !

schedule  to  get  results  tomorrow  but  thought I  would  put  s few  details  up  for those that  hadnt  done this  particular probe.... super  machine  actually a Sonogram   with a  device  that  cuts  little  "cores"    from  more than  20  location  precisely  mapped on the  Prostate...each  sample  core is  placed in a specific  container in a  box of sample bottles  labeled by  location....  Dr  has a  recording of  whole  procedure   and will will  check  test  results  against  visual of that  location

bad  news  (  sorta)  is that  you tend to piss blood  for a few days   and  absolutely  no  sex  alone or other wise  for  2 weeks

so  expect  a session to last a while  tomorrow  especially if  any  further action is needed

just one  more item  to add to  your  "golden years"  list

Great news Mark. Pain meds are within sight!

Ray, Good to hear that they got it all. I hate the skin crap too. lol.

Nick, Interesting description. Hang in there for the next two weeks and I hope no further action will be needed!!

------

Me? Well i've been a bit crankier than usual lately and haven't posted much. Dealing with getting my lawyer to submit necessary stuff to the ALJ. All was submitted yesterday! Yay! Now it's a matter of waiting.

Feeling rather crappy lately. No big deal but have been having horrible fatigue, GI issues and my degenerative disks are causing more tremors in my left arm and head. Feeling more like Katherine Hepburn.

I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon Friday to discuss it and hope there will be alternatives to surgery as I've heard that it's the last thing one wants to do if you can avoid it. We shall see.

Having more issues with concentration lately but I'll chalk that up to stress and the winter doldrums. Both my mind and my yard are fluffy these days. Can't wait to get away next month for a few days in warmth and sunshine.

My two minutes are up.  ;)

ojo      Hi Mitch....I'm having my own issues my friend, when I was in Mexico last month, my neuropatic pain was awful, I was blaming it to the weather, but now, back at home (Ohio),the pain is still pretty bad, I don't know what else to do, I take vicodin for it, but it doesn't help anymore...but, like you, I'll manage, it is what it is, right?  ojo

Well, I got an infection in one of my incision sites, so I'm on antibiotics.  But I don't take it lying down!  Day before yesterday, I went out shopping (grocery).  At one store, I walked in with my cane, got into one of those electric carts, and proceeded to get groceries there.  The man who was bagging helped me by taking my groceries to my car.

The next store I went to, did the same thing.  Only this store's parking lot was full of ice and snow, so it wasn't so easy to navigate. Got an electric cart, did my shopping there, but no one there helps out with getting groceries to the car. So, I tried to take the cart to my car, but it wouldn't go over the ice and snow. I got stuck 3 times. Finally someone passing by asked if they could get someone. I asked her to please get a store employee.

So when the employee came out, I asked him to stay with the cart while I got my car, which he did. But that meant I had to walk again over the ice and snow, with my cane. It goes very, very slow when I only use my cane.  Anyway, got that done, got home, carried everything inside (while using my walker, I'm so talented lol).

Yesterday I went to the store that was helpful, and the parking lot was clear from the sun being out, so I was able to take the cart out to my car.  By God, I don't like being held down.

Still on the walker mostly. I am doing physical therapy exercises, and practicing walking with the cane.  But, it goes very, very slow when I use the cane, and I can only walk with it for a short distance.  Then my knee and ankle get very weak, and I have to go back on the walker.

The doctor told me before that people can put full weight on this type of leg surgery, in a week. I disagree.  At least with me. Now I can lift the opposite leg up while standing on the one that had surgery, which obviously means at that point full weight is going onto that leg; but I cannot do it for long, or continue doing it over a period of time.  Still weak.  But, it is better than it was.  So, that's something.

M, I'm sorry you're not doing well.  So, your lawyer has to send more stuff to the judge?  Isn't this over yet?  I may have missed something.

Tony, I hope you're feeling better.  I have severe neuropathy, so I feel ya.

Hope all is okay with everyone else.

Betty

Betty,

It's nice to hear you are getting better! Just glad you didn't fall on the ice and break another bone! btw... were you shoveling with your walker? Maybe I missed that.

As far as my hearing goes, the judge asked my lawyer to submit some more crap. She did and now it's just the wait.

----------

So... I did NOT get the news today that I had expected from the neurosurgeon. I had hoped he would say that my discs have more time to degenerate before surgery was needed but no, they will be calling me soon to set up a surgery appointment.

They will be removing 2 discs in my neck and replacing them with a fused spacer made partly of my own bone and partly from cadaver bone.

They will be coming at it through an incision in the front of my neck about 2-3" long. Only one night in the hospital at least and he said the recovery time is pretty quick to be able to do my normal daily activity. Then there will be 3 months of wearing something around my neck for at least 4 hours a day.

Oh joy.

I haven't gotten that far. I will need to do some research on this whole thing. What cadaver bone wouldn't be happy as a clam living their life vicariously through me anyway? lol.

Betty is BT65. :)

Hugs and thanks!

M, no, I didn't shovel with my walker.  I had the shovel in one hand, then when I needed to move I had my cane in the other.  That way I was able to lean on both.  It's tricky lol.

I'm so sorry to read about the needed surgery. Boy can I relate to having to have surgery done, though yours is a different kind.  Write down all your questions.  That's what I did.  I also googled the type of surgery I was to have done and checked on the reputable websites.

Is this surgery going to give you relief?  Are your migraines related to this?  I'm sure you'll do your research.

I'm just getting tired of having to use the walker.  My knee is still weak where the incision is, and my ankle is weak from the previous break.  Continuing on with the physical therapy exercises.....

I really really would have loved to see a video of your shoveling technique. lol.

I should have written down my questions but I honestly wasn't expecting that surgery would be necessary at this point. I do plan on checking out the web for more info.

The surgery should give me relief from my arm pain/tingling/numbness but not sure about the migraines. My neurologist has said he thinks that these discs might be the cause. We will see.

I did remember to ask the neurosurgeon about my tremors in the left hand and my bobble head and surprisingly he said that tremors are usually not related to disc issues. hmm...

Sorry to hear how frustrating your recovery is but I'm sure time and TLC will eventually get you back walking on your feet. Hang in. :)

Wade, thanks for the support. I don't really do too much shoveling as Kenny tries to get it done before I can get outside. I help but not much.

Mitch  so  sorry  about the  surgery  thing... hate  surgery... always  issues  other than the original  problem ... years ago  had  a problem  with  disc   a little  lower  on back  but  the  recommendation  was  to  Fuse or  replace  them  by  going in  from  front  cut  rib cage  move lungs  and  other  things out  the way    when put  back  take  6 or more  months  to get back  to "normal"

Thanks Nick. Don't you go worrying about me now. I do expect the healing process to go beyond what was described as I doubt they, or any other doc for that matter has performed it on a 32+ year Poz guy. Another experiment for the records.  ???

Well, I'm glad you weren't rated an 8,9, or 10 anyway! It may be a never ending story that hopefully won't require much along the way although I certainly can understand the never ending story part of it.

Sending my best your way!

Nick is right about doctors being optimistic abou "healing."  My bone surgeon said some people are full weight bearng within a week after getting a rod put in. Well, I bet they don't have two other breaks to deal with lol.  My ankle is still pretty weak.

As far as my shoveling, well, the shovel was pretty heavy so I could lean on that with most of my weight. M, if I could have video'd it I woulda sent it to you lol.

I'm so sorry you're having those issues with your neck and all the secondary issues. Sounds very painful and frustrating.  You'll be in my daily anxieties/prayers.

Hi all, a lot to catch up on here!

Mitch, I'm sorry to hear about the surgery recommendation. Please keep us posted as things progress.

Betty, dumplin, let someone else shovel the damn snow!

Nick, I am sorry to hear of the prostate cancer. There is way too much cancer going around these days. Please keep us posted on how things are going.

I will be keeping all of you in my thoughts.

As far as my news, well, it was interesting. After they found the polyp in my stomach, the doctor decided to share some information with me.

They are relatively rare, about 1 percent of the population will get them.

There are three basic types. All can be malignant and stomach cancer can easily result from them.

The good news is, mine was not, so I'm pretty OK. No H. Pylori either.

I haven't seen the gastroenterologist, but my HIV doc can access the medical records, they are on the same computer system. I will see the gastroenterologist on the 16th.

So, we have no clue why I get the weird pains I get.

But after being told I probably have ulcers, then having a mini cancer scare instead, I'm not going to worry about it.

In fact, I think I will make something special for dinner tonight, Welsh lamb pasties with a spinach salad and fresh pineapple sorbet.

HUGS,

Mark

Mitch  and  Mark  thnx  I  am not  particularly  worried  about the options  My  Dr  told me  what  the possibilities are  and  sort of  recommended one    will  chat with  cancer specialist  about  his take on treatment...  I  have already  decided  against  "chemical"   which actually is series of Estrogen  shots....which  is  supposed  to  shrink  prostate  but  grows  breasts  and a butt....dont  think  thats for me...others  are  variation on  Xray,  radioactive pellets    and  various  combinations of the  two

interested to  hear  his opinion

Geeze Mark, ulcers?  Those can be quite painful.  My ex brother-in-law had those and was a terrible alcoholic. One time he drank so much his ulcers started bleeding.  He couldn't even hold down water and ended up in the hospital.

I hope yours stay non-irritated.  As for me and the snow, we, I like to do what I can.

On a light note, I received my lab results from the doc today.

CD4 is still OK at 986 (41%) and an undetectable viral load.

My cholesterol is OK, although still marginal.

I guess that isn't too bad.

HUGS,

Nick, Good luck with your visit with the cancer specialists. I personally wouldn't mind 1/2 of the estrogen pill option... the half that adds a few pounds to the butt anyway.

Mark, Glad to hear that most everything turned out ok. Your numbers are great too!

Me, Well I'm getting tired of this snowy and cold weather and keeping my fingers crossed every time I go to the mailbox. Nothing much else going on in the igloo for now. Just plodding along with my usual maladies.

Had a lot going on of late and apologize for not interacting more.  Trying to figure out how and what to do with this property. I've worked my ass off on it and have gotten it to the point where even I was surprised the amount of equity we have.

My brother and I worked through it all and discussed out options.  His wife absolutely loves this place even though they live in what I would consider a dream home and location.  They recently paid off their house and we own this one outright.

And since I expect to soon be living with someone else, I need to think smartly through my next steps.  We settled on a deal where we'll break ground in the spring for a smaller home on one of our vacant lots.  Once completed, they'll move in here.

With as many uncertainties that I've experienced in life, I want to guard against potential issues.  We've decided that I'll build me a 1200 sq ft garage with an equal size garage apartment above it.  That also stops us from paying the ridiculous flood insurance premiums.

It won't cost me anything as they'll make the loan payment generated from renting their home.  This is such a total win/win and can barely wait.  Since I'll be the general contractor, I'm sure I can build it correctly to my standards and a much reduced price.  So neither of us will pay anything for rent/house payments.
Being honest is not wronging others, continuing the dishonesty is.

since you'll be the general contractor, wrapped in bubble wrap, ......
right? you meant to mention the bubble wrap but just forgot, right. LOL

wow! That's all good news and good planning.

after a quick check to see what forum this is, let me also say, wow! Can you believe you're making long-range big plans like this?!?! To have nearly been a bunch of dead men not all that long ago, isn't it amazing to be this alive?!? ("And since I expect to soon be living with someone else") and this in love?!? Nice ;)
