Do you change what you listen to depending on the weather and season?
Do you make any special effort to hear new music and/or new artists?
Just spring cleaned my phone.
Any recommendations for new music? Any new groups, singers? Good music from old favorites?

In the world of canned music it's nice to see someone who created an entire album, released it, and was able to promote it without a record label and do well. So my summer 2013 pic is Macklemore.

Every summer there seems to be a sort of anthem or a particular singer that you attribute to that year. This year I'd have to say (at least here) its Macklemore.
I'm with you on that one. It is pretty refreshing to see a straight hip-hop artist who is so gay friendly and who doesn't mind being quite silly (and who doesn't record music that is either misogynistic or focused on violence and other cliches). While he/they might be a bit overexposed I still like him/them.

I am now thinking of all the past summers and what their songs were and how it brings back memories of what I was doing at the time.
Speaking of Daft Punk, Rev I believe it was 98 or so when Around the World came out. I was at a party and took some very very strong E and we danced all night long to that song. I will always attribute daft punk to that year.
The summer after I spent in Europe (American graduates college and goes to Europe, how cliche) and the song Mambo #5 was the big hit in Germany (how very annoying ) and the bloodhound gang was being played over and over in Paris. That whole summer I relate to those two songs.

All my latin music comes out in summer. It made sense in NYC with that muggy air, sex, heavy nights, fans, smells, melting pavement. I guess its just nostalgia now in my cool clean Swiss city.
Only in Summer do I listen to classic rock and roll, though I listen to psychedelic rock all year. I also prefer Summer to bother listening to opera music at home.
I have more associations dating from the 80's then after. So in the 80's when I was in my twenties, yep. Some songs went with times and places. I have a few from the early 90s when I went to school again and was a little older but living like a kid again.
I had an itch to listen to the first Culture Club album this weekend. But I don't have it and couldn't even find a complete copy online to download. I guess I could buy it on itunes - but I don't like to buy music on itunes.
I was listening to that Pere Ubu disc mentioned above and deciding if I wanted to watch a documentary about Lou Reed. And I was reading articles about war booty in the world's art and history museums. And Boy George popped up. Cause he had a ancient cross from Cyprus over his fireplace, for years, and never knew it had been plundered. Some art expert recognised it in the video. (He gave it back.)
And that song - White Boy - came into my mind and I couldn't get it out.

That was a VERY hot song. I heard it first at a rather faggy frat party and all the boys danced up a storm, chanting "you're white" laughing, and then again a week later at Danceteria in the city.
I remember the first time I heard Jack Your Body, it was at Boy Bar. Paul Hardcastle's 19 at Limelight, I was with two pretty girls from Long Island and we had sunburns from Robert Moses. Inner City and First Choice = Pyramid Club.
I remember meeting a gorgeous hunk at Brighton Beach, where I never went, and he dragged me to a gay party at Palladium, and I never went to gay parties there, and Shannon's Let the Music Play came on, and I didn't like her or that song, but it all tipped over into sex on a throbbing gyrating stick of gorgeousness. I'm transported every time I hear that song.

This Temptations song takes me to the park where hippie "park counsellors" did arts and crafts projects with us.
When I was bored playing baseball -- which I was "forced to do" -- I would sing Born to be Wild. That song still smells like mowed grass, glove leather, and bug spay. Ironic because its so outlawish, and I just have a safe indolent suburban reverie.

I listen to everything. Right now while I'm waiting on the upcoming Pet Shop Boys and Nine Inch Nails albums, I've been doing all my yardwork to the Les Miserables movie soundtrack, Ke$ha and Sonoio

so much of my life is the 80s and 90s and every song reminds me of something. from the Go-Gos and Olivia Newton-John when I first started going to gay bars to all that crazy "alternative" music of the early 90s as Grunge was coming onto the seen. But there' s a huge gap from the mid 90s to the early 00s as I was just too sick to care. Now I have the internet and can listen to anything and everything anytime.

I live in the city built on rock and roll, (as per Jefferson Starship) and today, I observed... A very big man dressed in leathers, riding a very nice parade bike with matching saddlebags and a sound system. He was the epitome of a man's man.
OK, what was this manly man listening to as he drove down North Market? Leslie Gore from around 45 years ago had a #1 hit loved by teenage girls everywhere. "It's my party and I'll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, you would cry too if it happened to you."
