Am I Infected
« on: September 08, 2006, 08:50:21 am »
Dear All
please answer my problems i really appreciate you help and never forget your help in my life.
problem: i had a oral sex with unknown status of a women however i am expecting she might have HIV since when I had protected vaginal sex with her I could smell a fishy odour smell at her vagina. exactly after 13 weeks on tip of pennis i got the burning sensation but still i have it, after a week i have gone through all the STD tests and during this period docter gave me Doxycycline for one week.  all my std reports came back negative except HSV1 got positive doc gave me valtrex for one day i used it. now my tongue got white coating still i have it now doc gave me antifungal drug now am using it today a red color rash appeared on my pennis i guess its because of herpes and i have no idea. my specific questions are.
1) if someone have Herpes how are the chances for hiv through oral sex
2) can we belive the EIA hiv negative test result after 14 weeks
(i know several times here posted 8 weeks is enough but why i am getting these HIV symptoms like white coating on tongue, repeated herpes symptoms, and still my pennis is burning and small pain in rectom and i lost my weight 4%)
3) the reason i worried is people are saying 3-6month window why
4) i couldnot sleep properly and eat properly please your advice could help one human life.
Thanks in advance

Dave, taking a poll here about your HIV status is NOT a good idea.

You've put together a number disparate bits to come up with a self-diagnosis which really has no basis in HIV science. Neither the smell of the woman's vagina nor that you may have gotten herpes from her nor any of your symptoms are in anyway suggestive of HIV. But then you also need to know that neither the presence nor the absence of symptoms is ever the way to know about your HIV status.

If you have had a genuine risk, which not so incidentally this incident was NOT, then the only way to reliably  know your status is to get tested at 13 weeks past that incident.

Giving oral to a woman is risky only theoretically in terms of HIV. The factors which would have to come together are unlikely and we do not have confirmed cases of transmission in this manner. I don't expect you to make history by becoming one.

Since you are obviously distressed about the issue go ahead and get tested now. You can get a reliable result at this point and I certainly expect you will test negative.

If you have troubling symptoms that is something to discuss with your doctor. I don't see this in anyway as an HIV situation.

Lastly, do yourself a favor and read the lesson on transmission on this site to which you can find a link in the first thread in this section, (as well as the one on testing). You will get the basics you need to there.

Cheers,

Well, you can go and get tested at 6 months but it's totally unnecessary. I don't care how many people tell you otherwise.

The CDC is conservative in this matter and has for sometime recommended 13 weeks as sufficient except in cases involving IV drug use and/or someone whose immune system is severely depleted from something like treatment for cancer. And before you start fretting about whether you have a depleted immune system, let me tell you that you wouldn't have to wonder if that was the case because when that happens to someone it's very, very clear from the state the person is in physically.

You do not have HIV. Period. End of story.

Whether you accept that or not is up to you. But I don't have any doubts based on what you have reported.

Your diabetes will NOT affect your 14 week result.

You talked to people on there hotline that no nothing about HIV. They read from a book and they don't understand why someone might need to test up to 6 months. Unless you are on anti-rejection medication for a transplant, or an everyday heavy IV drug user or you're on chemo or a health care worker, or if you had an immune suppressed system, then you don't have to worry about the 6 month test. Three months is conclusive...Which you are negative..

Dave,

Ignore lovelife's thread. It's a crock. You don't have to worry. You're 14 week test is valid.

Stay out of the poz only forums. They'll just drive you nuts.
